Joel Embiid becomes the favorite to win the NBA MVP

Speaking of the Sixers, they now send out the NBA MVP. Joel Embiid averages over 30 points, close to 12 rebounds, and dominates every time he steps onto a basketball court.

No wonder he’s favored over LeBron to win the NBA MVP. Embiid might be the most difficult player to guard in the league. He can literally change the outcome of the game by simply playing.

How? Teams that challenge Embiid in the lane are likely to get their shot blocked. If you double Joel when he’s on the blocks he’s a good enough passer to find the open man. If you play Embiid one-on-one, he’ll beat you.

Unless Philadelphia’s center misses a lot of games in the second half, he might be a lock to win the NBA MVP.

By next week, Nets may be favorite over Lakers on MyBookie

Give it another week or so, but soon MyBookie oddsmakers will make the Brooklyn Nets the favorite to win the NBA Championship. The Nets were trending towards favoritism in the final couple of weeks before the All-Star Break.

What’s happened since then? Blake Griffin decided he wants to join Brooklyn’s party. Also, Kevin Durant should step back onto the court mid-March.

So, now, the Nets will have a starting five that includes James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Blake Griffin. Oh, DeAndre Jordan, the fifth starter, and Joe Harris also play for the Nets. Those two are pretty good players.

Biggest question in second-half is if the 76ers, Suns, and Jazz keep it going?

Odds to win the NBA Title can tell us a lot. The Philadelphia 76ers have the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Utah Jazz have the Western Conference’s best record, and the Phoenix Suns have the second best record in the West.

Utah is at +700, the Sixers are at +1800, and the Suns are at +3000 to win the NBA Championship. It’s obvious that the biggest question oddsmakers and NBA handicappers have is will the Jazz, 76ers, and Suns keep it going?

At first glance, the answer appears to be resounding no. But Utah, Phoenix, and Philadelphia have advantages that other teams, even squads like the Lakers, Clippers, and Nets, don’t.

Utah is the most cohesive bunch in the league. Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert play their game. The bench might be the best in pro basketball, and Quinn Snyder has become one of the best coaches in the NBA.

Philadelphia has Big Joel Embiid. We just wrote about how Embiid is the most dominant player in the league. As long as Joel is healthy, the Sixers should challenge Milwaukee and Brooklyn in the playoffs.

The Suns have a +6.5 point differential. Only Utah’s at +8.8 is better. Phoenix plays great defense and can score almost at will. Chris Paul is a hall of fame point guard, Devin Booker is one of the best shooting guards in the NBA, and DeAndre Ayton averages a double-double every night.

So will the Jazz, 76ers, and Suns implode? Don’t count on it.
