Thunder trade Chris Paul to the Suns, Bogdanovic and Holiday to Bucks
The Oklahoma City Thunder traded Chris Paul to the Phoenix Suns for Kelly Oubre Jr., Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, and Jalen Lecque. Although the trade looks like a bad one for the Thunder, OKC did what they wanted.
Paul’s contract is massive. The Thunder have decided to officially rebuild. Parting with their final A-list star allows them to do that. For the Suns, acquiring Paul makes them a contender in the West.
Phoenix will pair CP3 with awesome shooting guard Devin Booker. They got one of the best point-guards in NBA history and they didn’t have to part with DeAndre Ayton or Mikal Bridges. Chalk it up as a huge win for the Valley of the Sun.
The Milwaukee Bucks also strengthened their team. Jrue Holiday is one of the best point guards in the league. Holiday averaged 19.1 points, 4.8 boards, and 6.7 assists with the New Orleans Pelicans. Jrue is a real point-guard while 6’ 6” Bogan Bogdanovic can play the points, shooting guard, or small forward.
Both will help Giannis this season. With Holiday and Bogan, the Bucks become the team to beat in the deep Eastern Conference.
Edwards, Wiseman, and Ball expected to go 1-2-3 at Thursday’s NBA Draft
If the Minnesota Timberwolves don’t trade the top pick, they may stick with Georgia forward Anthony Edwards. Most agree that LaMelo Ball is the top player in the draft. But the point-guard, who has incredible passing skills, may not fit with the T’Wolves roster.
Hanging onto the first pick could be a bad move. Minnesota may want to trade down if they don’t think they need Ball. Edwards has the look of a decent but not great NBA player. Don’t be surprised. It’s difficult to translate college domination to the NBA. Edwards will have a decent career. But it’s hard to see him having a first prick in the NBA Draft type of career.
The Golden State Warriors could draft Ball instead of center James Wiseman. Either way, the Warriors will get a solid player. Drafting either makes some sense. Pairing a center with Draymond Green sounds awesome.
Ball won’t have to shoot jumpers, his Achilles heel, if he’s on the floor with Green, Steph Curry, and Kyle Thompson, though. Curry and Thompson can both play small forward. That’s three guards with excellent passing skills on the court at the same time. Add in Green, and that’s four players with great passing skills on the floor together.
Ball won’t fall past the Charlotte Hornets at three. But who knows what Michael Jordan and Charlotte will do? They could trade down if Ball’s gone or trade up if they believe the T’Wolves or Warriors will draft LaMelo.
Harden wants to land in Brooklyn, but that doesn’t seem possible
James Harden declined to become the NBA’s first $50 million per year player. The Rockets offered a two-year contract to The Beard last week. He decided he doesn’t want to stay in Houston.
Then, he told the Rockets that he wanted them to trade him to the Brooklyn Nets. That probably won’t happen. The Nets don’t have the resources to make a play for James. Houston alluded to that last week. If James does end up in Brooklyn, it would likely require a three, maybe, four team deal.
Have a great rest of your week!
