NBA outlines COVID protocols for upcoming season

It took the National Basketball Association 134 pages to let everyone know what we’re going to write down in a couple of paragraphs. The gist of the 134-pages? If a player contracts COVID-19, he must spend a minimum of 12 days in isolation.

During a 72-game regular season, 12 days could mean a lot. Players had better self-isolate and keep from contracting COVID. If they do, they could hurt their franchises big time. Not only that but the document also lays out how teams should proceed should a player test positive for the coronavirus.

Players must go through several steps, the biggest of which is to contact local authorities. They must also contact trace all close contacts, clean and disinfect any spaces the team or the arena controls.

Finally, the NBA has put the burden of player isolation on the teams. It’s up to the team to set up isolation housing for the player who tests positive. One great statement from the document is this, “The occurrence of independent cases or a small or otherwise expected number of COVID-19 cases will not require a decision to suspend or cancel the 2020-21 season.”

In the bubble, the league lost too much revenue. Players, owners, and the NBA understand this. Don’t expect pro basketball to come close to shutting down the upcoming season.

National Basketball Association releases preseason schedule

The preseason happens from Dec. 11 through Dec. 19. There are plenty of interesting matchups during the preseason.

On Dec. 11, the Lakers take on the Clippers. Dec. 12’s top game is Mavericks versus Bucks. Kevin Durant plays with the Brooklyn Nets for the first time on Dec. 13 against the Washington Wizards.

On Dec. 15, Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers leads the squad versus the rival Boston Celtics. Circle those games on your calendar. Even if you don’t plan on backing a team ATS or playing the total, watch to see which squads could have success against the spread when the real hooping starts.

Lakers remain massive favorite to repeat as champions

The Los Angeles Lakers will head into the new season a massive favorite to win the NBA Title. The Lakers are less than +300 favorites to win the championship.

We mustn’t wait long to find out how good the Lakers are. The season starts in less than a month while teams must hit the courts starting on Dec. 11. Even though the Lakers looks like a lock on paper, they’re an aging squad that won’t get the benefit of resting their legs in a bubble in 2020-2021.

Have a great week!
