Why Bet on Phoenix?

The Suns played well for about a quarter and a half in Sunday’s Game 3 but would lose 120-100. The Bucks dominated in all facets of the game for its last 36 minutes. Jae Crowder was a bright spot in the loss, going 6-for-7 from deep for 18 points with six rebounds no turnovers in 33 minutes.  Crowder was the only Suns player who shot effectively from long range, as the rest of the roster went 3-for-24 (12.5 percent) on the night.

Devin Booker scored just 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting, Deandre Ayton battled fouled trouble but had 18 points, nine rebounds and two steals and Chris Paul scored 19 with nine assists and four turnovers.  In the 24 minutes that Ayton sat, the Bucks outscored the Suns by 14 points. In total, Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo took more free throws (17) than the entire Phoenix roster (16). As a team, Phoenix committed 24 personal fouls, which led to the Bucks going 20-of-26 from the charity stripe.

“I’m not gonna get into complaining publicly about fouls. I’m just not gonna do that,” Suns coach Monty Williams said. “But you can look. We had 16 free throws tonight. One person had 17. So, Ayton, we’ve gotta learn from that, we’ve gotta beat guys to the spot. He’ll grow from this. I promise you, he will.”

Three of Ayton’s five fouls occurred when he was defending a Bucks player driving to the basket.

“We got to figure out or define what is a legal guarding position because there are times where [Ayton] can move his hands out of the way, but it’s hard to tell a guy what to do when somebody is running into you,” Williams said.

Booker, meanwhile, has developed a pattern in these 2021 playoffs that he simply saves his worst games for Game 3s. He was so bad Sunday that Williams removed Booker from the game with just under a minute left in the third quarter with the Suns down 17 points and never put him back in.

“Their aggression, they keyed on him, he missed some shots,” Williams said. That’s going to happen. He’s been in this situation before. When you get to the Finals, it means you’ve been in a number of situations. This is nothing new to us anymore. He’ll bounce back.”

Why Bet on Milwaukee?

Fueled by a pair of scorching runs to end the second and third quarters — 16-3 over the final 4:52 of the second, and 24-6 over the final 5:03 of the third — the Bucks cruised to a 120-100 victory at home on Sunday to cut their series deficit to 2-1.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was absolutely terrific with 41 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and one steal. He joined Shaquille O’Neal and LeBron James as the only players in NBA history with 40+ points and 10+ rebounds in back-to-back Finals games.

Giannis was in attack-mode all night, his relentlessness highlighted by his 17 free throw attempts (he made 13 of them). Giannis made 14 shots within 5 feet of the basket, tied for the 3rd-most in a Finals game over the last 25 postseasons. Only Shaq had more.  As a team, the Suns made 13 shots within 5 feet of the basket in Game 3.

Giannis is shooting 79% from the paint this NBA Finals, which would be his highest in any playoff series of his career (30-of-38). The highest FG pct in the paint in the last 25 NBA Finals (min. 30 FGA) is 72%, done by LeBron James in the bubble. Through three games, Giannis is averaging 34.3 points (on 62.5 percent shooting from the field), 14.0 boards, 4.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks in 37.7 minutes.

With two more 40-point outings, he would match Michael Jordan’s Finals record.

“I feel like I’ve come a long way just to be able to sit here, being interviewed by you guys, playing in this game, being with my teammates, thinking I’m going to be out for a year, coming back,” Giannis said after the game. “It’s been a long journey and I’m trying to enjoy every single moment of it. I’ve said in the past I know I’m going to be doing this for a while for the next 10, 12, years, whatever my goal is. So, I just try to enjoy each day and try to take as much as possible from each day and try to be in the moment.”

Jrue Holiday had 21 points with nine assists and five rebounds in Game 3. Khris Middleton (6-for-14) and Holiday (8-for-14) combined to shoot 14-for-28 (50%) after a 26-of-65 (40%) effort in the series’ opening two games.  Bobby Portis came alive off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Milwaukee has just one home loss in these playoffs.
