These schools played on Dec. 3 at Purdue and the Boilermakers won 77-70. Trevion Williams contributed 13 points and 18 rebounds, including two huge ones late, Jaden Ivey scored 19 points and Mason Gillis added 12 points off the bench for the Boilermakers. Purdue had a 63-44 lead dwindle to 70-68 with 3:08 left after Iowa went on an 11-0 run, capped by Kris Murray’s 3-pointer. Purdue held a 7-2 edge the rest of the way. The Hawkeyes were without leading scorer and rebounder Keegan Murray, Kris Murray’s brother.

Friday’s game marks the 171st all-time meeting between Purdue and Iowa, with the Boilermakers owning a 93-77 series advantage. Purdue has won two of the last three games against Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Purdue (16-3) crushed Northwestern 80-60 on Sunday. The Boilermakers played without leading scorer Jaden Ivey due to injury (16.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.9 APG). It is believed he will play in this one. Purdue’s 80 points were its most against Northwestern since Feb. 12, 2012 – a span of 14 games.

The win was Matt Painter’s 371st victory at Purdue, tying Ward “Piggy” Lambert for second place on the Purdue career victories list. It moved him into fifth place on the all-time wins list by a Big Ten coach. Painter now has 396 career victories (371 at Purdue, 25 at Southern Illinois).

Purdue improved to 16-0 this season when scoring at least 70 points and has held five straight opponents under 70 points in regulation. Purdue has won 49 straight games when shooting at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line. The Boilermakers shot 51.8 percent from the field, 41.4 percent from long distance and 76.9 percent from the free throw line. Purdue has won 19 straight games when making 10 or more 3-pointers. The Boilermakers were 12-of-29 from deep.

Purdue leads the country in offensive efficiency (124.1) and has been held under 1.00 points / possession just once (Indiana – 0.98).

The Boilers are one of just two teams nationally to shoot over 50.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from 3-point range and 72.0 percent from the free throw line. Purdue’s big three of Ivey, Trevion Williams and Zach Edey are making a huge impact this season. The group is averaging 43.7 points, 20.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 2.4 blocks and 2.4 steals per game, shooting 316-of-546 (.579). The trio accounts for 51.6 percent of Purdue’s scoring.

Why Bet on Iowa?

Iowa (14-5) beat Penn State 68-51 on Saturday. Sophomore Keegan Murray was the game’s leading scorer with 15 points. Murray would also haul in eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and one steal. Sophomore Kris Murray was close behind with 13 points, as the Murray brothers accounted for 41 percent of Iowa’s scoring production on the day.

Senior Jordan Bohannon led the Hawkeyes with a +24 plus-minus, tallying 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting from behind the arc and knocking down a pair of free throws. Iowa improved to 88-3 when holding opponents to 61 points or fewer in the Fran McCaffery era (since 2011). The Hawkeyes have won five straight inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, dating back to Dec. 21, 2021. Iowa improved to 11-1 at home this season.

Keegan Murray is third in the country in points per game (22.8); 28th in field goal percentage (.573); 41stin blocks per contest (2.16); and 58th in double-doubles (5). Murray is a three-time Big Ten Player of the Week honoree. Bohannon is Iowa’s career leader in assists (665), free throw percentage (.886), games played (162), and 3-pointers (407). Bohannon is the NCAA all-time leader in games played (162).

The Hawkeyes are second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.84); and third in fewest turnovers per game (8.9) and turnover margin (6.1). Iowa has been making the most of its trips to the foul line. The Hawkeyes are shooting 76.2 percent from the foul line. Iowa is tops in the Big Ten and 35th nationally in free throw accuracy. The 292 free throw makes are 16th most in the NCAA.
