Written by on December 27, 2022

We are now 8 weeks into the college basketball season and getting ready to head into the heart of conference play, which is often where we see fortunes change rather dramatically. The top 5 in the National Rankings remained the same this week, but there were some movers below that. Let’s take a look at the top 25 and see what’s in store this week for your NCAAB bets.

The top 5 in the National Rankings

#1 Purdue Boilermakers 12-0 – The lone game on the schedule this week is against Florida A&M, so expect Purdue to remain unbeaten.

#2 UConn Huskies 13-0 – They have Villanova up next, followed by a tougher matchup against ranked Xavier. Keep an eye on that one for a potential upset alert.

#3 Houston Cougars 12-1 – A road trip to Tulsa is followed by a home game against UCF to close out the year.

#4 Kansas Jayhawks 11-1 – Kansas has won 5 in a row and will close out the year with a tough one against 8-4 Oklahoma State.

#5 Arizona Wildcats 12-1 – A tough one ahead on New Year’s Eve against Arizona State, who is 11-2 and 2-0 in conference play.

#6 Texas Longhorns 10-1 – Up a spot from last week, the Longhorns have a gimme against Texas A&M Commerce before closing out the year against Oklahoma.

#7 Tennessee Volunteers 10-2 – The Vols are up a spot and will have a tough one against 8-4 Ole Miss up next.

#8 Alabama Crimson Tide 10-2 – A comfortable win in their last outing, but a much tougher one next on the road to ranked Mississippi State.

#9 Arkansas Razorbacks 11-1 – Next up is a tough conference matchup against LSU, who are also sitting at 11-1 on the season.

#10 Gonzaga Bulldogs 10-3 – A team on the move after knocking off Alabama. Their 2 remaining games this year are of the winnable variety.

#11 UCLA Bruins 11-2 – A wobbly start is in the rearview, with the Bruins on an 8-game win streak that they should extend on the road at Washington State.

#12 Baylor Bears 9-2 – 4 wins in a row for the Bears, which should become 5 against Nicholls State. A road trip to face Iowa State is a tough way to end the year.

#13 Virginia Cavaliers – With 2 straight losses coming into this week, the Cavs are dropping, but have a chance to get well against Albany and Georgia Tech.

#14 Miami Hurricanes 12-1 – A win over Virginia helped Miami move up 8 spots this week. Look for the good run to continue versus Notre Dame.

#15 Wisconsin Badgers 9-2 – A 2-spot move in the right direction this week and another win coming versus Western Michigan.

#16 Indiana Hoosiers 10-3 – After losing 3 of 4, the Hoosiers are back in the right direction with 2 straight wins.

#17 Duke Blue Devils 10-3 – A loss to Wake Forest saw Duke drop 2 spots this week. Loom for them to bounce back against Florida State.

#18 TCU Horned Frogs 10-1 – 8 wins on the trot has the Horned Frogs moving up the rankings. 2 more wins seems likely before year end.

#19 Kentucky Wildcats 8-3 – Missouri is up next in what is a difficult game, followed by Louisville.

#20 Auburn Tigers 10-2 – 2-2 in their last 4 games, the Tigers need a win over Florida to get back on track.

#21 Mississippi State Bulldogs 11-1 – A loss to Drake was a killer, but the Bulldogs can redeem themselves with a win over ranked Alabama.

#22 Xavier Musketeers 10-3 – 6 wins in a row and a huge game against #2 UConn on the horizon. A potentially massive week for Xavier.

#23 – New Mexico Lobos 12-0 – A pair of conference games against Colorado State and Wyoming as the Lobos look to end the year unbeaten.

#24 West Virginia Mountaineers 10-2 – The New Year’s Eve date with 11-1 Kansas State is as big as it gets.

#25 UNC Tar Heels 9-4 – The Rat Heels snapped out if a 4-game losing skid to win 4 in a row and claw their way back into the top 25.
