2 College Basketball Bets this Weekend Worth Going After

Written by on February 10, 2023

This weekend’s college hoops schedule is a loaded one as far as resume-building opportunities and conference tournament seeding. Here are a couple of games that we have identified as the best college basketball bets for Saturday and Sunday’s slates.

College Basketball Top Betting Opportunities for the Weekend 2/11-2/12

Saturday: Connecticut Huskies at Creighton Blue Jays (-1.5)

When: Saturday, February 11, 2023
Where: CHI Health Center Omaha, Omaha, NE

Time: 2:00 PM EST
TV: FOX

Danny Hurley’s Huskies may have once been the darlings of college basketball but not more. Connecticut rose from an unranked team in the preseason to the second ranked team in the nation and, while still ranked, have become a very unpredictable group. Hurley’s group has gone just 5-6 straight up over their last eleven games and have covered the number in just three of their last eight games.

Meanwhile, Creighton is the hottest team in the Big East at the moment. The Blue Jays really turned it on in the second half on Wednesday night against Seton Hall and has now registered seven consecutive victories. Greg McDermott’s club is now 16-8 overall on the season and 10-3 in league play. They are 4-2 against the spread in their last six games and have won five of their six matchups with the Huskies since the 2020-21 season. Creighton is just 6-6 against the spread at home on the season, but their margin of victory is over 17 points per contest. This seems to be a pretty easy spot to wager on the Blue Jays to cover a small number, as Connecticut is underperforming the number by -2.2 points per contest on the road this season.

Sunday: Temple Owls (+11.5) at Memphis Tigers

When: Sunday, February 12, 2023
Where: FedExForum, Memphis, TN

Time: 12:00 PM EST
TV: ESPN2

This could be considered a shaky play, as Memphis appears to be far superior to the Owls on paper. The Tigers have one of the most impressive records in the American Athletic Conference on the season, but there is a difference between being a good team to watch and a good team to wager on. This Tigers team may be third in the league standings overall, but they are the second-worst team in the AAC against the spread at home.

Penny Hardaway’s team is just 3-8 against the number at home this season and are underperforming the number by nearly four points per game. Their margin of victory number is +11.6 points at home this season, which is incredibly close to this given spread.

On the flip side, the Temple Owls do not have an impressive overall record on the season at 14-11 but are fourth in the AAC standings at 8-4. Aaron McKie’s group is also one of the best teams in the conference against the spread on the road at 5-2-1 this year. Their road margin of victory number is -1.9 points which is respectable. They are 5-3 ATS in their last eight games and have won two of three road games straight up, including a contest at Houston. This should not be a double-digit spread, especially against a Temple team that is looking to get right and make a statement.
