Why Bet On FSU?

The Noles routed Boston College 104-72 on Monday. After going scoreless during Florida State’s last loss, breaking a 35-game double-digit scoring streak, Dwayne Bacon finished with 16 points, becoming the 46th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points, as No. 17 FSU (22-6, 10-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) continued its dominance at home. Bacon, needing only 11 points to surpass 1,000-point mark, began the second half with a 3-pointer near the top of the key to become the second sophomore in school history to achieve the feat. FSU is 17-0 at home this season. It was the fifth time this year overall that FSU reached 100 points. The bench scored over half of the team’s points Monday night in outscoring Boston College’s bench 59-2. Freshman guard PJ Savoy led the bench players finishing with 15 points on the night. Florida State finished the night shooting over 54 percent from the floor, while burying 12 3-pointers to aid the offensive onslaught. The Noles also generated 26 assists to just eight turnovers on the evening. The victory also marked the 300th for Leonard Hamilton at Florida State and the 500th of his career despite NCAA docking him for 22 wins from the 2006-07 season for a rules violation. It was FSU’s 10 th ACC win this year. That marks the seventh time in school history that the Seminoles would have won at least 10 ACC games in a single season. Junior Xavier Rathan-Mayes continues to play as one of the top point guards in the ACC. Rathan-Mayes is ranked first in the ACC in conference games played with a 3.1:1 assist to turnover ratio. Rathan-Mayes has the fewest amount of turnovers in ACC play among all of the starting guards in the nation’s best conference. The Seminoles’ floor general is the only ACC point guard with an A:TO ratio above 3:1 and is the only ACC point guard with a ratio above 2.5:1 in ACC play.

The Tigers (14-13) lost to Virginia Tech 71-70 on Monday. Seth Allen hit a three-pointer with 3.8 seconds to play to lift Virginia Tech to the win. Allen’s clutch three was his second of the season against the Tigers, both in one-point victories. On Tuesday, Clemson’s Marcquise Reed hit a baseline jumper with 21.6 seconds left to give the Tigers a 70-68 lead. Out of a timeout, Allen missed a layup with 10 seconds left, and Zach LeDay got the rebound, but the ball was knocked out of his hands and went out of bounds off Clemson. Virginia Tech then worked the ball to Allen, who buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key. It was the latest in a series of excruciating defeats for the Tigers, who dropped their fifth game in their past six outings. Clemson is 3-10 in games decided by six points or less. Virginia Tech was the 18th consecutive opponent the Tigers have played that is rated among the top 100 in the latest RPI. Clemson will look for payback here after getting crushed 109-61 at Florida State on Feb. 5. Bacon had 29 points, tying a career high. He made six 3-pointers and was 10-for- 14 from the field. The Seminoles made 17 3-pointers, which is the most they have had in an ACC game. It was the first time FSU reached the century mark in an ACC game since a 111-109 loss in double overtime to Georgia Tech on Feb. 11, 1999. The 48-point margin also marked its biggest win in conference history, surpassing the 36-point victory over Virginia in 1994. The Tigers came in with a two-game winning streak but committed a season-high 22 turnovers — leading to 35 Florida State points.
