Who Do Oddsmakers Like to Win the 2019 March Madness Tournament?

Duke Blue Devils

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +190

The Blue Devils don’t offer Golden State Warriors NBA Championship odds, but the odds on the Dookies to win it all are close. The Blue Devils have lost only 2 games this season, once to Gonzaga and once to Syracuse.

Duke has shown the ability to both dominate teams from the outset as well as come back from big deficits like they did against Louisville in the second half down 23 points. That’s how incredibly talented Duke is.

As crazy as it sounds, this might be the best team Coach K’s ever put onto the basketball court.

Gonzaga

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +900

Sure, the Zags play in the less than stellar West Coast Conference, but they’re dominating their opponents in that conference. Not only that, the Zags had a tough early season schedule. They beat Arizona, Washington, Duke, Texas A&M, Illinois and Creighton. They only lost to North Carolina on the road and by 3 points to Tennessee.

The biggest thing going for Gonzaga is the fact they play in the WCC. The conference is so awful that the Zags should be one of the freshest 1-seeds in the NCAA Tournament. They’ll also play close to home because they’re a sure thing for the 1 in the West Region. The great Mark Few has led the Zags to Final Four before. Gonzaga could be looking at another trip. Once you get into the Final Four, you have good of a chance as anyone to win the National Championship.

Virginia

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +1000

Virginia remains one of the top choices to win the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament even though they’ve lost twice to Duke. There are a couple of reasons why. First, the Cavaliers likely won’t face Duke unless both teams make it to the Final Four.

This is especially true if, like so many expect, Virginia grabs a 1-seed. UVA would have to be a 1-seed either in the Midwest or East while Duke takes the 1 in the South. That might put Virginia on the opposite bracket in the Final Four, meaning the only time they’d face the Blue Devils in the tournament would be in the National Championship.

The other reason Virginia’s a top choice from the odds makers is because they have the best defense in college basketball. The Cavaliers allow 54.4 points per game off 37.6% from the field and 26.7% from three.

Kentucky

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +1400

A couple of weeks ago Kentucky offered +2500 odds to win the National Championship. Not anymore. The Wildcats have been on an incredible 11-1 straight up streak. The only loss was the controversial game against LSU.

Kentucky showed that they’re the best team in the deep SEC by dominating then #1 Tennessee 86-69 as a -3.5 home favorite. Coach Calipari’s squad should only get better from here. They’re a serious contender to win the National Championship and that’s why odds makers dropped them to +1400.

Michigan

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +1400

Even though the Wolverines lost 69-75 to Penn State as a -7.5 road favorite on Feb. 12, they remain one of the oddsmakers’ choices to take the Final Four come March Madness. The main reason could be because of how deep the Big Ten is this season.

While teams like Gonzaga, and even Duke, have faced some bad teams, the Big Ten is loaded with good teams. 8 of the 14 squads in the Big Ten have 9 losses or less. Michigan’s going to drop a couple of games here and there because they face great teams. But, that doesn’t mean they don’t have what it takes to win the title.

Tennessee

  • 2019 March Madness Odds: +1400

Yep, Tennessee lost to Kentucky, but let’s put it in perspective. The Wildcats played the Vols at home. Also, it was Tennessee’s first loss since Kansas beat them 87-81 over a neutral court in overtime on Nov. 23.

The Volunteers must only beat Kentucky in the rematch and win the SEC Tournament to secure a 1-seed in either the South Region or East Region. That makes them an oddsmakers’ favorite to win the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament.
