Amongst all of the hype surrounding the NFL, College Football, and the NBA, we sometimes tend to forget that the college basketball season is in full swing. In looking at this weekend’s slate of games, Saturday’s schedule is a little light, but Sunday has some very good matchups.
We’ve found two games that we think we have a good beat on. We’ll give you a preview of each and then give you our best NCAA Basketball betting advice.
What College Hoops Teams Should We Bet On This Weekend?
Kentucky Wildcats @ Gonzaga Bulldogs – Sunday
Coming into the season, the Gonzaga Bulldogs were the second-ranked team in the country. After some blowout games, they then hit a tough opponent in Michigan State. This was thought to be a down year for the Spartans, but on an aircraft carrier, the Spartans gave Gonzaga all they wanted, and the Zags came through with a tight victory over the Spartans.
Just a few days later, Gonzaga went to Austin to take on Chris Beard’s Texas Longhorns. Beard’s team is long and athletic, and the Longhorns overwhelmed Gonzaga, beating them easily. Now Gonzaga has to contend with another top team, the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky also played Michigan State. It took an overtime period, but MSU came away with a victory over Kentucky. John Calipari said his team wasn’t prepared well enough due to players missing practices due to injuries, etc.
Oscar Tshiebwe, a preseason All-American, led Kentucky until he fouled out late in regulation. Tshiebwe will be a force to be reckoned with throughout the season.
Last night, Kentucky got back on the winning side of things with a 43-point victory over South Carolina State. The Wildcats will now prepare to head to Spokane to take on the Zags on their home floor. Gonzaga has one of the best home-court advantages in college basketball, so that will be another thing for Kentucky to contend with.
Both teams are very athletic and like to get up, and down the floor, so we don’t expect to see a defensive battle in this one. As a matter of fact, we expect to see a lot of points scored in the game. We could see totals in the high 70s or low 80s for both teams.
The line on this one will be interesting. With Gonzaga having a huge home-court advantage, we’re figuring that they’ll be favored in this one by two to three points. We like Gonzaga to win a tight one at home, so closely monitor the spread before placing your wager.
James Madison Dukes @ North Carolina Tar Heels – Sunday
While we have no doubt that North Carolina is the better team and will more than likely win this game, the main thing we want to look at is the spread. North Carolina has yet to play any tough teams this season, but they’ve struggled with most of their mid to low major opponents.
They beat UNC-Wilmington by 13, Charleston by 16, and Gardner-Webb by just six. That tells us that UNC, who returns most of the roster that went to the National Championship game last season, may be overrated.
Keep a close eye on the spread on this one. If you think it’s too high, then we’d go with James Madison. We’re figuring that UNC will be favored by 12-16 points. James Madison is 4-0 on the season and has yet to be tested.
