2016 NFL San Diego Vs Tennessee Expert Predictions

We should already be talking about preseason football and the first action of the year, but the Hall of Fame Game scheduled for the weekend turned into a nightmare, as awful field conditions led to the postponement of the game between the Packers and the Colts. We have had to wait a little longer than normal, but it’s now time to get into Week 1 of the preseason, and that means making some NFL expert picks and predictions. This is a whole lot tougher to do when you don’t really know half of the guys who will be playing in these games, but you can’t help but get a little excited about the start of football season. There are a number of games being played on Saturday night, and one of those sees the San Diego Chargers head into Tennessee to face a Titans team heading into its second season with hot QB prospect Marcus Mariotta under center. He may not see much game action in this one, but you just never know what head coaches might do with guys who are still relatively new to the NFL.

Why bet on the San Diego Chargers

It was a tough year for the Chargers in 2015, as they spent a large portion of the season wondering if they were going to have a new home in 2016. It turns out they are staying in California for one more season, but that also means that those same distractions may be in place this season. You would expect this team to do better than the 4 wins they managed last year, but you just don’t know how the uncertainty of their future will come into play. The last time the San Diego Chargers were in Tennessee was in 2013, and they lost that one 20-17. They are 3-point underdogs for this meeting, and I think they might just be a good bet to cover.

Why bet on the Tennessee Titans

It’s not unusual for a team to struggle when they have a rookie QB under center, as it usually means that they are in a rebuilding phase. That was certainly the case with the Titans last year, and they were as bad as their 3-13 record suggests. The good news is that they look to have landed a legitimate NFL QB in Marcus Mariotta, but the bad news is that they are still a long ways off from competing for a playoff spot. They may improve by a couple of wins this season, but I don’t expect Tennessee to make any kind of noise in their division or in the playoff race.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

On paper, the San Diego Chargers look to have a little more depth than the Titans, and that is something that certainly comes into play in the preseason. I like the Charger to get the win on the road in Tennessee.
