Are the Broncos a safe bet against the Chargers in the NFL lines for Week 1?

2016 NFL Betting Favorites During Week 3

Written by on July 18, 2016

The Cincinnati Bengals were among the undefeated teams through the first three weeks of the 2015 season, and the team will be hoping for a similar start in 2016. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, the 2016 is going to full of landmines right from the get go, starting with testing trips to the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers, before a fierce Week 3 showdown against defending Super Bowl Champs Denver—a team that has owned Cincy over the past decade. Can the Bengals record another fine start to their season? Will Cincinnati finally get the Denver monkey off its back? And what can we expect from the remaining NFL Week 3 odds? Here’s everything you need to know about all those questions and much more…

In Depth Analysis On The 2016 NFL Betting Favorites During Week 3

Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals (-3)

NFL Week 3 Free Pick: Cincinnati (-3)
With trips to the Jets and Steelers in the first two weeks, the Bengals could easily start their season on a 0-2 mark, making this home clash against Denver Broncos a must-win for Andy Dalton and Co.  And even if they somehow split their first two road games or even go surprisingly go 2-0; the jury will still be out if the Bengals can outsmart perennial playoff contenders Denver and prove if they are capable of ending their much-talked about lethargy in the postseason games. So, either way, this game against Denver will be extremely important for the Cincinnati franchise. Now, on paper, this is a very winnable game for Cincy, given that Dalton is a better QB than whoever will start at quarterback for the Broncos (Sanchez, Siemian, or Lynch). But then again, with a 1-5 record in their last 6 overall meetings against Denver, Dalton and Co. will need to be on their best to get the win here. If you asked me, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncos defense stands tall to upset Cincy, but from the current indications, the Bengals look like the more complete team hence the better pick for the SU and ATS.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants (-3)

NFL Week 3 Free Pick: NY Giants (-3)
Kirk Cousin will not be a happy man in 2016, or so I believe. His failure to reach a long-term agreement with the Redskins means less pay for him in 2016, a factor that could see him play without much motivation on the field. Contract issues aside, the Giants have won their last four straight home games against the oft-road-shaky Redskins, including a 9-point victory at the MetLife Stadium last season. With the Giants entering 2016 with the second highest expenditure in the NFL since the Super Bowl (at $141.5M, per EPSN), the expectation is that the New Yorkers will benefit from their offseason investments, playing better than they did in 2015. Former Super Bowl winner Eli Manning, star receiver OBJ and the expected-to-improve New York supporting cast should therefore be due for the win and the easy points here, barring any major calamities in the Giants roster between now and this Week 3 fixture.

Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys (-6)

NFL Week 3 Free Pick: Chicago (+6)
As always, there are big expectations for the Cowboys ahead of the new season. But more than ever before, the hope is that a returning healthy QB in Tony Romo plus the draftees and free agents that have been signed by the Cowboys over the recent years will legitimize Dallas as Super Bowl 51 front contender. All those are good reasons to believe and expect much, I agree. My problem, however, is that I expect Chicago to equally be among the most improved teams in 2016, with Jay Cutler benefitting from a stud receiver in Kevin White, along with several other weapons in his offensive arsenal. The Bears’ defense should also be better, if the 2016 offseason trades and signings are to be believed. Add to the fact that Chicago has won its last two trips to Dallas, and is 3-1 in the last 4 overall against the Cowboys; I highly doubt if Dallas will win this game, leave alone doing so by as many as 6 points.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (-1.5)

NFL Week 3 Free Pick: New Orleans (-1.5)
Matt Ryan vs. Drew Brees is a must-watch on any given day, given that these are two top-10 QBs in the league. Ryan has, however, not been up to the task lately, with Brees and the Saints sweeping over the Ryan and the Falcons in 2015. And it isn’t just last season; New Orleans is 8-4 in its last 12 meetings against Atlanta dating back to the start of the 2010 season. Throw in the additional point that the Saints have had an arguably better offseason than Atlanta, the victory and points in this game should be in favor of New Orleans.
