NFL Week 8 ATS Betting Picks

Written by on October 22, 2018

Monday night will see the end of Week 7 of the NFL season, which means that the midway point is almost upon us. The LA Rams continue to be the team to beat, as they are the only one with an unbeaten record to this point. The defending Super Bowl champions look like a shadow of the team we saw last season and are now in a fight for their lives just to make a playoff spot. It has been a weird, wonderful type of season thus far, but will the madness continue in Week 8? We are taking a quick look of the latest NFL odds to see if we can identify some ATS plays, but we will also have SU and O/U picks coming today, so be on the lookout for those, too.

NFL Week 8 ATS Picks

Philadelphia Eagles (-3 ½) at Jacksonville Jaguars

At 3-4 through the first 7 weeks of the season, the Eagles are in some serious trouble, especially with the Redskins emerging as a legitimate challenger for the NFC East crown. Philly saw a great effort from Carson Wentz last week against Carolina, but they were unable to translate all their yardage into meaningful points as they once again fell in a close one.

This week, they are going against a team in even greater turmoil. The Blake Bortles experiment in Jacksonville appears to be drawing to a close, as he was yanked last weekend after another brutal performance. Two struggling teams here, but the Eagles win the QB battle.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Philadelphia is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Jacksonville is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games

Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7 ½)

The big difference between this Browns team and teams from recent years is that this squad is putting themselves in a position to win on a regular basis. That they have been unable to do so tells you that there is still a lot of work to be done in Cleveland.

After a rocky start, the Steelers appear to be finding their feet, winning back to back games against Atlanta and Cincinnati to get back close to the top of the AFC North. The Steelers have made a habit of dominating the Browns at home and should do so again here.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Cleveland is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games
  • Cleveland is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games on the road
  • Pittsburgh is 1-7 ATS in its last 8 games at home
  • Pittsburgh is 1-3-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Cleveland

Green Bay Packers (+9) at LA Rams

If you need any more convincing as to just how good this Rams team is, just take a look at this spread. During the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay, the Packers have never been an underdog of this size, although the point spread here has just as much to do with how the Packers are playing as it has to do with how good the Rams are.

Heading into NFL Week 8, the Rams remain as the only unbeaten team.

The 3-2-1 Packers have not been living up to expectations this season, partly because of real concern about the health of Rodgers’ knee. When they win, they win close games, and while I think they lose this one, I do think Green Bay can go out and cover the spread.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Green Bay is 2-7 ATS in its last 9 games
  • Green Bay is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • LA is 6-11-2 ATS in its last 19 games at home
  • LA is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games when playing at home against Green Bay

New Orleans Saints (+1 ½) at Minnesota Vikings

Every year in professional sports, we always end up talking about a team of destiny. While there is still a lot of football to be played, I am starting to get the sense that the Saints may well be that team. They served notice of their return to the elite last season and are continuing on in a similar vein this year.

At the heart of it all, as always, is Drew Brees. He has been posting big numbers and breaking all kinds of records in the process, and you just get the sense that another Super Bowl ring would be the capper to a great season. I am riding the Saints in this one.
