We are now just a matter of days away from the start of the NFL playoffs, with most of us thinking about where our wagering money will go this weekend. While the focus is certainly on the next game up, it’s also a good idea to look at the big picture and get some bets on now for the potential conference winners. The NFL Odds to win the AFC and NFC are up now, and while we will be taking a look at both, we are going to get things rolling with the AFC.
Updated NFL Odds to Win the AFC – January 2nd
“You feel that in the locker room. You feel that from the leaders of this team. We know it’s going to take full effort the whole entire way.” ✊https://t.co/vlxp6JbdGr— Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) 1 de enero de 2019
Kansas City Chiefs
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +168
The Chiefs were one of the most exciting teams in the league this season, with their offense, led by first-year starter Patrick Mahomes, lighting things up on a weekly basis. They overcame a bit of a dodgy defense to nab the #1 seed in the AFC, but you do have to wonder if those defensive frailties are going to come back and haunt them in the postseason. Home field advantage throughout certainly helps, as the Chiefs are always tough to beat at Arrowhead Stadium.
New England Patriots
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +230
While the Patriots have not looked particularly great coming down the stretch, they consistently found ways to win, doing enough to land in the #2 seed, which means a bye week for this group. There are a lot of pundits who have already written the Patriots off, but that is a dangerous game to play when you consider how good this team has been in the postseason in the Brady/Belichick era.
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +650
This team finished the season very strong, seeing a huge turnaround in fortunes when rookie QB Lamar Jackson filled in for the injured Joe Flacco. He has added a new dimension to what was a lethargic Ravens offense, and with one of the best defenses in the league, this team is now suddenly a dual threat. They will be at home for the opening round of the playoffs, so they are definitely in with a shot at moving on.
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +750
The Chargers will be a little disappointed that they did not secure the opening round bye, especially when you consider that they finished the season with 12 wins.
They will need to start out on the road in Baltimore, and while that is a tough task, their record proves that they are more than capable of going on the road and getting that win. This has been a career year for Phillip Rivers, but can he cap it off with a playoff run to the Super Bowl.
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +1150
The Texans, AFC South champions, started the season with 3-straight losses, but they have been incredibly tough to beat since then. They finished the season with an 11-5 record and were perhaps a little unfortunate not to get into the #2 spot in the conference. They have a tough start to the postseason with a visit from the Colts first up, but if they can get past that, they could be in for a deep run. A very good bet at long odds.
- NFL Odds to win the AFC: +1150
The Colts had a spectacular second half of the season after looking out of it in the early going. Andrew Luck is back and fully fit, and these Colts need to be considered a legitimate dark horse threat. They are going to be on the road all the way as the #6 seed, but you can see that the confidence of this group is ridiculously high right now.
