NFL 2020-21 AFC Championship Odds Analysis Update

Written by on January 4, 2021

The NFL regular season is over, and the playoffs are set. This season is a little different in that we will have seven teams starting out the postseason in both conferences as opposed to the usual 6 that we are used to. That means that only 1 team gets a bye, while the other 6 head in the Wild Card weekend. The playoff race went down to the wire in the AFC, with the Miami Dolphins missing out despite winning 10 games on the season. Let’s take a closer look at the odds to win the AFC for all 7 teams in the Playoffs.

Kansas City Chiefs (-110) – The defending Super Bowl champions lost their final game of the season, albeit without several starters, to close out the year at 14-2. They are definitely the team to beat in the AFC and will have home field advantage throughout after nabbing the #1 seed. The Chiefs have been winning a lot of close games coming down the stretch and will need to be better against a very strong group of teams in the AFC.

Buffalo Bills (+300) – Josh Allen took a huge step forward this season and now looks like a QB that can lead the Bills to the promised land. As the #2 seed in the AFC, they will open the playoffs at home against the Indianapolis Colts. They closed out the season with 6-straight wins, which means they have some real momentum heading into the postseason.

Baltimore Ravens (+450) – After a rough middle part of the season that left their playoff chances in jeopardy, the Ravens got hot to finish the season, winning 5 in a row to close things out. This is a team that no one really wants to face this postseason, even though they have experienced early exits in each of the past two years.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+900) – After an 11-0 start, the Steelers went on to lose 4 of their last 5 games, although their final game of the season, a 2-point loss to the Browns, came without 8 of their regular starters on the field. They won’t need to wait long for some revenge, though, as they will be at home to Cleveland this coming weekend.

Tennessee Titans (+1600) – The Titans came out of nowhere last season to make it all the way to the AFC Championship Game. They had another solid season this year, but they are going to have a tough time making another deep run. They will, though, be at home to face a Baltimore team that they beat last season on their way to the Championship Game.

Indianapolis Colts (+2000) – The Colts went out last offseason to land the services of QB Phillip Rivers, who they believed could take them to the playoffs and beyond. They have accomplished the first part of that goal, but they have a tough start to the postseason with a trip to Buffalo this weekend.

Cleveland Browns (+2500) – This is a huge step forward for the Browns, who have not been anywhere neat the playoffs for as long as anyone can remember. Are they going to be satisfied with simply making it in or are they ready to make a run? We will find out this Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
