NFL Betting Analysis for the 2021-22 NFC Divisional Favorites

2021-2022 NFL Regular Season

  • When: Sep. 9, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022

NFC East – Dallas Cowboys +110

Heading into the new season, there’s a lot to like about the Mike McCarthy coached Dallas Cowboys. The first thing to absolutely love is how Jerry Jones went all out to keep former Mississippi State quarterback star Dak Prescott a Cowboy. Prescott was on his way to an NFL MVP top three finish before blowing out his knee last season.

If the Cowboys’ defense is even slightly better, Dallas should finish no worse than second in their division.

But although that’s true, Ron Rivera is creating a perennial playoff contender in D.C. The 2020 NFC East division winners should have an improved offense. The defense will be a Top 5 unit.

Cowboys Odds: Underlay

NFC North – Green Bay Packers -170

We’re going underlay for sure. Yes, a case can be made that even if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t play, neither the Minnesota Vikings nor the Chicago Bears can win the NFC North. But the belief here is that NFL analysts are discounting both Chicago and Minnesota.

First, let’s get one thing straight, the Detroit Lions have no shot at the division. The Lions shouldn’t win more than 3 to 4 games. The defense is horrendous and Jared Goff has fewer weapons in Detroit than he did in Los Angeles.

Back to Green Bay, the Packers play the fourth most difficult schedule in the league. Sure, the Bears’ schedule ranks third most difficult and the Vikings’ schedule ranks fifth most difficult. But there’s a chance the Vikings and Bears start veteran quarterbacks while Green Bay starts Jordan Love.

Rodgers and Green Bay are in an untenable situation. It’s doubtful Rodgers plays for the Packers unless they trade Love and it doesn’t look Green Bay will.

Packers Odds: Underlay

NFC South – Tampa Bay Buccaneers -200

Yes, the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl. However, we mustn’t forget that Tampa Bay didn’t win the NFC South last season. In fact, New Orleans swept Tampa Bay in both games. Sure, the Saints are without Drew Brees, but the defense remains a terrific unit while the offense could be more dangerous with a Jameis Winston – Taysom Hill hybrid at quarterback than it was with Brees under center.

Tampa must also deal with an improved Carolina Panthers squad. In Tampa’s favor? The defending Vince Lombardi Trophy Champions have the twenty-ninth easiest schedule this season.

Even with an easy schedule, -200 makes Tom Brady and the Bucs an underlay to win the NFC South.

Buccaneers Odds: Underlay

NFC West – San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams +170

We hate to go underlay again, but we must. No team in the NFC West is worth backing at lower odds than +200. The Niners and Rams should be favored, but not by much.

San Francisco has already lost a couple of key players. In addition, Jimmy Garoppolo is injury-prone and hasn’t played for a year.

The Rams traded DE Michael Brockers to the Lions in the Matt Stafford deal, and lost John Johnson, Troy Hill, and Morgan Fox, all important defensive players from last season to free agency.

The Seahawks and Cardinals have enough talent to win the division. +170 makes the Niners and Rams underlays.

49ers’ and Rams’ Odds: Underlay
