Baltimore at NY Jets Betting Pick & Prediction

Written by on October 19, 2016

The New York Jets are in a major funk and on a short week in Week 7 after a blowout loss in Arizona. So is it time for Coach Todd Bowles to turn to backup quarterback Geno Smith in place of struggling Ryan Fitzpatrick for Sunday’s game vs. the Ravens? Apparently not. But the Jets are slight favorites in NFL betting.

Take a Look at the Baltimore at NY Jets Betting Pick. Prediction & TV Info

When: Sunday, Oct. 23, 1 PM ET Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J. TV: CBS Opening NFL Lines: Jets -1 (41.5)

Why Bet on Baltimore?

The Ravens (3-3) lost a third straight game Sunday, 27-23 at the New York Giants so they will play in the same stadium here. A banged-up Odell Beckham turned a short fourth-and- 1 pass into a winning 66-yard catch and run with 1:24 to play for the Giants. Beckham caught eight passes for a career-best 222 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Flacco (26 of 48 for 307 yards) drove the Ravens to the Giants 24 in the waning seconds. But his final pass was knocked down in the end zone. Baltimore’s Terrance West had 87 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and caught four-of- six targets for 36 yards. West got off to a sluggish start before breaking off a 33-yard run in the second quarter. West punched in a 2-yard score with 2:04 remaining in the fourth quarter to give Baltimore a three-point lead. The Ravens came into the game without five starters: WR Steve Smith Sr., T Ronnie Stanley, G Marshal Yanda, Returner Devin Hester Sr. and LB C.J. Mosley. CB Jimmy Smith did not play in the second half because of a concussion. Yanda missed his first game in four seasons when he didn’t play Sunday with a shoulder injury. Ryan Jensen replaced him at right guard. Yanda is likely out again. Ravens coach John Harbaugh said linebacker Terrell Suggs (biceps) is unlikely to play against the Jets. He suffered a torn bicep late in Sunday’s loss to the Giants. Za’Darius Smith will be a candidate to fill in at outside linebacker. A whopping 20 of Baltimore’s 22 games in the last two seasons have been decided by one possession. The Ravens are 8-12 in those, 3-3 this year after Sunday’s loss. The Ravens now lead the NFL in penalties, with 52, and they’re on pace to tie the franchise record for flags in a season. This comes after Baltimore was penalized 15 times for 111 yards vs. the Giants.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

New York (1-5) was crushed 28-3 in Arizona on Monday for a fourth straight double-digit loss. The Jets’ Fitzpatrick was 16 of 31 for 174 yards and was benched in favor of Smith after New York’s longest drive of the night ended in an interception in the end zone late in the third quarter. Smith’s lone series at quarterback ended when he was intercepted by Tyrann Mathieu with 4:20 to play. The Jets were 2 for 13 on third-down conversions. They were 0 for 8 before converting one during their long third-quarter drive. Bowles says he’s sticking with Fitzpatrick for now: “Smith played (the role of) a relief pitcher. Fitz will be back next week … It definitely wasn’t Fitz’s fault. He barely had any time to throw.” Fitzpatrick has yet to throw a touchdown pass in the second half of a football game this season. He has had just two games with a quarterback rating over 90 and currently leads the NFL in picks. Fitzpatrick is last among all qualified quarterbacks in the NFL in completion percentage and passer rating. He won’t be back with the team next year, that I can promise you. The Jets have been outscored 110-36 in the past four games, having managed only three touchdowns in that span — and one of them was a fluke fumble recovery. The Jets’ vaunted run defense was ripped apart by Arizona’s David Johnson, who ran for 111 yards and three touchdowns. The Jets did nothing in the second half, as usual. They’ve been outscored, 51-7, in the third and fourth quarters of the last four games.

My Betting Pick

Ravens are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings. Under is 3-1- 1 in the last 5 meetings. Favorite is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. Not sure why Baltimore isn’t favored? Take the Ravens in NFL betting and under.
