Best Bets For 2016 NFL Week 2

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the bag, and a few teams have already signaled their Super Bowl intent. Yes, I know that it’s a little early to start declaring teams as big favorites, but there were a few who certainly lived up to their Super Bowl betting odds, while others showed that they deserve to be at the bottom. As I put this piece together, the Week 2 lines have yet to be released, so I’m just going to go ahead and make some straight up predictions. We will have more detailed looks at a number of these games, as well as their betting odds, as the week progresses.

New England Patriots over Miami Dolphins

The New England Patriots went into Arizona in Week 1 as a 9.5-point underdog, yet managed to come away with a 23-21 win. Jimmy Garoppolo, in for the suspended Tom Brady, looked very much the part, going 24 of 33 for 2884 yards and a TD toss. The Patriots did give up a solid lead in the second half, but closed the game out late with a field goal to get a very big win. They go against a Dolphins team this week who looked pretty sound defensively in a 12-10 loss to the Seahawks. The offense was bleak, though, with only 64 yards on the ground. Patriots win this one.

Carolina Panthers over San Francisco 49ers

The Panthers had history repeat itself in the season opener, going down to the same team that beat them in the Super Bowl last season. The Panthers looked good in the first half against the Broncos, but ran into a defensive wall in the second. Week 2 will see them face a 49ers teams that won 28-0 against an awful looking LA Rams team on Monday night. The win was nice, but they did not look good doing it. Comfortable win for the Panthers at home.

Detroit Lions over Tennessee Titans

I’m not going to lie, I thought the Lions were in trouble this year without Calvin Johnson in the line-up, but they still have Matthew Stafford at QB, and he lit things up in a stunning 39-35 win over the Colts in Indianapolis. The Titans held the Vikings scoreless through the first half of their opening game, but were eventually worn down in a 25-16 loss. That defeat came at the hands of a team with QB issues, which makes me think they might not fare so well against Stafford.

Denver Broncos over Indianapolis Colts

It’s way too early to suggest that the Colts may be a desperate team, but it looks as though they have some serious issues to address after giving up 39 points to the Lions at home. They are going against a Denver Broncos team in Week 2 who showed that it’s going to be business as usual on defense, and that Trevor Siemian may not be as bad a QB as we all believed he might be. I’m taking the Broncos to win again.
