Series History

San Francisco leads the all-time series against Arizona, 29-22. The 49ers are looking for their first win at University of Phoenix Stadium since 2013. Last season, the Niners lost 33-21 at home to Arizona in Week 5. Drew Stanton threw two touchdown passes to Larry Fitzgerald in the quarterback’s first start in two years, and David Johnson ran for two scores. Stanton won’t be playing in this game unless Carson Palmer gets hurt (he was last year), while Johnson is out about eight weeks. San Francisco’s QB then was Blaine Gabbert. He’s no longer on the team. In Week 10 in Arizona, the Cardinals won 23-20. Chandler Catanzaro kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired; he was released by the Cards this offseason. Palmer was 30 of 49 for a season-high 376 yards and a touchdown. Fitzgerald caught 12 passes for 133 yards for Arizona. Colin Kaepernick was the Niners’ QB then. Remember him?

Why Bet On San Francisco?

The Niners are 0-3 but nearly won the past two weeks. They come off a 41-39 loss to the Rams last Thursday. Brian Hoyer had his best performances of the season, completing 23-of-37 passes for 332 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception with a 98.0 passer rating. He stood firm in the pocket despite constant pressure and also added a 9-yard rushing touchdown. Carlos Hyde led 49ers running backs with 84 yards and two touchdowns. It was Hyde’s fourth-career multi-touchdown game. Pierre Garçon caught 7-of-10 targets for 142 yards, the sixth-best single-game total of his career. The team played without linebacker Reuben Foster and safety Eric Reid and neither is likely vs. Arizona. After he was injured early in the Week 1 game against Carolina, the Niners estimated Foster to miss about a month. This will be the third week Foster has been out, but he recently shed his walking boot and has made progress. Reid is dealing with a posterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee. The Niners need more from the pass rush. Although the 49ers had success against the Seahawks in Week 2, racking up three sacks, that was the only game in which they’ve been able to get the quarterback to the ground. Their three sacks rank 30th in the league (among 32 teams) and last among teams that have played three games.

Why Bet On Arizona?

The Cards (1-2) lost 28-17 at home vs. Dallas on Monday. Palmer had a big first half, completing 15 of 18 for 145 yards and finished 29 of 48 for 325 yards and two scores. He was sacked six times, a career-high three by DeMarcus Lawrence. Palmer didn’t throw an interception after tossing four in the first two games, which led Coach Bruce Arians to proclaim the latest version of Palmer “the best I’ve seen him in about two or three years.” The Arizona Cardinals, in their home opener, got a big game from Fitzgerald, who caught 13 passes for 149 yards, in the process moving ahead of Marvin Harrison into eighth in career receiving yards. The 13 receptions tied a career high. Are the Cardinals a safe betting pick in Week 4? Left tackle D.J. Humphries (knee) and left guard Mike Iupati (triceps) were limited in practice on Wednesday and both said they are confident they will return to the lineup against the 49ers after missing two games. Linebacker Deone Bucannon practiced in full, which should put him on track to make his season debut against the 49ers. Fellow LB NaVorro Bowman has 27 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in his past three games against the Cardinals. Bowman aims for his fifth game in a row with seven or more tackles.
