Jets vs. Baltimore Baltimore -18 (40) N.Y. Jets 16 Baltimore 7 – Underdog – Under Analysis: Super Bowl 3 was the first league championship to bear the official name, Super Bowl. The Jets were also the first underdog to win the Super Bowl outright. 4- 1970 – New Orleans, LA – Kansas City vs. Minnesota Minnesota -12 (39) – Kansas City 23 Minnesota 7 – Underdog – Under Analysis: The Chiefs won the first and only Super Bowl title in franchise history.  Quarterback Lin Dawson won the MVP award, but Kansas City’s defense starred by limiting Minnesota’s rushing attack to just 67 yards while recording 3 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. 5- 1971 – Miami, FL – Baltimorevs. Dallas Baltimore -2.5 (36) – Baltimore 16 Dallas 13 – Favorite – Under Analysis: Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley became the first defensive player to win the Super Bowl MVP award and the first player on a losing team to win the honor. Howley intercepted two passes and intercepted one fumble in a game that featured a record 11 turnovers. 6- 1972 – New Orleans, LA – Dallas vs. Miami Dallas -6 (34) – Dallas 24 Miami 3 – Favorite – Under Analysis: One year after losing in their first Super Bowl appearance, the Dallas Cowboys shut down the inexperienced Miami Dolphins while rushing for a record 252 yards. 7- 1973 – Los Angeles, CA – Miami vs. Washington Miami – 1 (33) – Miami 14 Washington 7 – Favorite – Under Analysis: Miami’s ‘No-Name’ defense never allowed an offensive touchdown in completing the league’s only perfect season to this day. 8- 1974 – Houston, TX – Miami vs. Minnesota Miami – 6.5 (33) – Miami 24 Minnesota 7 – Favorite – Under Analysis: The Dolphins scored on their first two drives and limited the overmatched Vikings to just seven first quarter plays. 9- 1975 – New Orleans, LA – Pittsburghvs. Minnesota Pittsburgh -3 (33) – Pittsburgh 16 Minnesota 6 – Favorite – Under Analysis: The Steelers won their first Super Bowl in the last professional game played at Tulane Stadium as Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown to win the MVP honors. 10- 1976 – Miami, FL – Pittsburgh vs. Dallas Pittsburgh -7 (36) – Pittsburgh 21 Dallas 17 – Underdog – Over Analysis: The Steelers won their second Super Bowl title, but the Cowboys managed to snap a five-year streak of favorites covering in the narrow defeat. 11- 1977 – Pasadena, CA – Oakland vs. Minnesota Oakland – 4 (38) – Oakland 34 Minnesota 14 – Favorite – Over Analysis: Hall of Fame wide receiver Fred Biletnikoff won the game’s MVP award by catching a whopping four passes for 79 yards and no touchdowns. 12- 1978 – New Orleans, LA – Dallas vs. Denver Dallas – 6 (39) – Dallas 27 Denver 10 – Favorite – Under Analysis: Dallas dominated defensively dominated by forcing eight turnovers and allowing only eight pass completions as linebacker Randy White and defensive lineman Harvey Martin shared the MVP honors for the first and only time in Super Bowl history. 13- 1979 – Miami, FL – Pittsburgh vs. Dallas Pittsburgh -3.5 (37) – Pittsburgh 35 Dallas 31 – Favorite – Over Analysis: Quarterback Terry Bradshaw tossed four TD passes to win the Super Bowl 13 MVP award. 14- 1980 – Pasadena, CA – Pittsburgh vs. L.A. Raiders vs. Washington Washington -3 (48) – L.A. 38 Washington 9 – Favorite – Under Analysis: Hall of Famer Marcus Allen rushed for a record 191 yards and two score to lead the Raiders to the emphatic Super Bowl 18 win. 19- 1985 – Stanford, CA – San Francisco vs. Miami San Francisco -3.5 (53.5) – San Francisco 38 Miami 16 – Favorite – Over Analysis: Joe Montana won his second Super Bowl MVP award, this time, by passing for 331 yards and three touchdowns. 20- 1986 – New Orleans, LA – Chicagovs. New England Chicago -10 (37.5) – Chicago 46 New England 10 – Favorite – Over Analysis: The Famed ’85 Bears capped off arguably the greatest defensive season in NFL history by shutting out New England until they ‘gifted’ the Pats a touchdown late in the fourth quarter as defensive end Richard Dent won the MVP. 21- 1987 – Pasadena, CA – N.Y. Giants vs. Denver N.Y. Giants -9.5 (40) – N.Y. Giants 39 Denver 20 – Favorite – Over Analysis: Quarterback Phil Simms completed a blistering 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns to win the MVP award while the Giants defense shut down John Elway. 22- 1988 – San Diego, CA – Washingtonvs. Denver Denver -3 (47) – Washington 42 Denver 10 – Underdog – Over Analysis: Doug Williams became the first African-American quarterback to lead his team to Super Bowl victory while winning MVP honors by passing for 340 yards and four touchdowns. 23- 1989 – Miami, FL – San Franciscovs. Cincinnati San Francisco – 7 (48) – San Francisco 20 Cincinnati 16 – Underdog – Under Analysis: Jerry Rice, the greatest wide receiver in NFL history, caught 11 passes for a record 215 yards and one touchdown to win the MBP award. 24- 1990 – New Orleans, LA – San Francisco vs. Denver San Francisco – 12 (48) – San Francisco 55 Denver 10 – Favorite – Over Analysis: When you throw for 297 yards with a whopping five TD passes like Joe Montana did in Super Bowl 24, then it’s a no-brainer that you’re the game’s MVP winner. 25- 1991 – Tampa, FL – N.Y. Giants vs. Buffalo Buffalo -7 (40.5) – N.Y. Giants 20 Buffalo 19 – Underdog – Under Analysis: Running back Ottis Anderson rushed for 102 yards and one score to win the MVP award but this game will always be remembered as the Scott Norwood ‘wide right’ Game with the Bills kicker missing a 47-yarder as time expired that would have given Buffalo the win.
