18 women come out in support of Deshaun Watson

It’s difficult to keep count of how many lawsuits have been field against Deshaun Watson alleging sexual assault and inappropriate behavior. But we believe the two filed on Tuesday, March 30, brings the total to 19.

On Wednesday morning, Watson’s lawyers released statements from 18 women who said Watson “never made them feel uncomfortable or demanded anything outside the scope of a professional massage.”

Who knows if anyone on either side of this situation is telling the truth. But the fact that 18 women are saying the exact opposite of those suing Watson speaks to how difficult a job Roger Goodell and the NFL has in regards to disciplinary measures.

This isn’t like the Adrian Peterson situation where there was no doubt AP used a switch to spank his kid. You can disagree with Goodell’s decision, suspending Peterson, but you can’t disagree with the fact.

AP admitted to spanking his kid with a switch. Watson has said he’s never treated any woman in the way his accusers said he did. Now, 18 other women are backing up Watson’s story.

Supposedly, Watson also tried to erase Instagram and text messages. Again, we don’t know if that’s true or not. What we do know is that every day this story appears to get murkier and murkier.

That’s good news for Watson, the murkier the better for the accused, but a big headache for the league and the Houston Texans. The Texans don’t know if they should cut Watson, tell him to stay home during mini-camps, or tray to trade him. The NFL doesn’t know what they should do, or even if they should do anything.

NFL will remove protocols for some vaccinated coaches, players, and personnel

On Wednesday morning, the National Football League released a memo saying they had plans to eliminate some COVID-19 restrictions.

Among the eliminations include ditching the quarantine period for infected players, daily testing participation and refrainment from social gatherings. The caveat? Players, coaches, and personnel must get vaccinated.

Per the memo, “It is also anticipated that clubs that achieve a certain rate of vaccination among its tiered staff and players may be permitted to relax restrictions that apply to meetings, meal time and use of locker rooms.”

Commissioner Roger Goodell also said on Wednesday that he expects stadiums to be at full capacity this season.

NFL decides to go to a 17-game regular season, new Super Bowl date is Feb. 13

The National Football League decided to go to a 17-game schedule. The new schedule pushes the Super Bowl from Feb. 6 to Feb. 13.

Most knew the league was going to add a seventeenth game. That didn’t prevent many players, including New Orleans star running back Alvin Kamara, from calling the move “stupid.”

Kamara has a point. Football is the most brutally physical sport on the planet. An extra game is another chance for injuries, which could lead to an injury riddled NFL Playoffs.

But money talks, and, at least in this case, a seventeenth game provided too many dollars not to happen.

San Francisco trades up to #3, will draft quarterback but insist Jimmy G. is the starter

The San Francisco 49ers made the boldest move yet. SF traded up to the third pick, which means they’re guaranteed to draft one of the top three rated quarterbacks, either Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, or Justin Fields.

In a press conference after making the deal, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said the Niners were drafting a quarterback. Then he said San Francisco was keeping Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter.

Then Shanahan said they’d listen to offers for Jimmy G. but, for now, Garoppolo was their starter. The interesting thing about all this? Garoppolo makes over $24 million this season. He makes over $24 million next season.

That’s a lot of dough to pay a seat warmer. No doubt, most teams will pass on trading for Jimmy G. at those numbers. Garoppolo is injury prone, which makes him a $10 to $15 million a year quarterback at best.

Maybe, SF hopes Garoppolo shines this season. Then, they can unload him. But anything can happen in the NFL. It may be a good idea to swallow your pride, sign whomever the Houston Texans cut, either Ryan Finley or A.J. McCarron, and trade Jimmy G. for a third-round pick.
