NFL Indianapolis Colts SB Odds & Analysis After Draft For 2020

Written by on April 28, 2020

Even before teams make a single pick in the NFL Draft, some will do business that will strengthen their team and open up their options when it does come time to select. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did that when they traded to get Rob Gronkowski from the Patriots, and the Indianapolis Colts followed suit by giving up their 13th overall pick in the first round. They sent that pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for DL DeForest Buckner. That move filled a major hole, but it also meant that the Colts did not get another pick until the second round. Let’s take a closer look at all their selections and their current NFL odds.

NFL Indianapolis Colts SB Odds & Analysis After Draft For 2020

Round 2

The Colts got their draft rolling with a pair of picks in the second round, starting with WR Michael Pittman Jr. out of USC. Given that they went out and picked up QB Phillip Rivers in free agency, it is perhaps no real surprise that they went after a weapon for him, especially since the window off opportunity with Rivers under center appears to be rather small.

Indianapolis swung another trade in the second round to move up a few spots so that they could nab RB Jonathan Taylor from Wisconsin. The Colts have a solid O-line and a nice stable of running backs, so they will be mixing things up on attack this coming season.

Round 3

The Indianapolis Colts maybe got a bit of a steal in their 3rd round pick, going with Julian Blackmon, who will likely start as a safety in the NFL after switching from CB during his time with Utah. Blackmon fell in the drat after tearing his ACL in December. The Colts are in decent shape at safety, so there will be plenty of time for this young man to recover from his injury and get ready to play.

Round 4

As mentioned earlier, Phillip Rivers cannot be considered a long-term option at QB, but if he can give the Colts a good year or two, it will give them time to figure out their future QB situation. In the 4th round, the Colts drafted Jacob Eason out of Washington. He will join Jacoby Brissett and Chad Kelly behind Rivers, so you have to imagine that at least one of those guys will be on the move before the season starts.

Round 5

The Indianapolis Colts are strong on the offensive line, so the addition of Danny Pinter with their 5th round pick is all about adding some more depth.

Round 6

With all the wheeling and dealing going on with the Colts in this draft, they ended up with 4 picks in the 6th round. They started out by addressing their D-line needs with the addition of Robert Windsor. They followed that up with CB Isaiah Rodgers, and then another WR in Dezmon Patmon. The Colts closed out their 2020 NFL Draft by selecting LB Jordan Glasgow.

Overall, this was a very decent draft by the Colts, with most football types grading their selections as an A- or a B. As far as the odds to win the Super Bowl go, the Colts are a bit of a dark horse at +3000.
