Jets vs Bears NFL Week 8 Odds & Expert Preview

Written by on October 24, 2018

As we approach the midway point of the NFL season, we have a pretty good idea of the makeup of most teams and what to expect from them in the second half. That said, there are still several teams that are a bit of a mystery, especially with so may hovering around the .500 mark at this stage of the season. The New York Jets find themselves a game below that mark, although that is not entirely unexpected when you consider that they decided to roll the dice and start their rookie QB this season. It could actually be argued that they are a little better than we all expected them to be.

The Chicago Bears are right on that .500 mark at 3-3 and are a little tougher to figure out. There have been times that they have looked very good indeed, especially on the defensive side of the football, but they have also lost some games that you would really have expected them to win. The Bears are in as a 7-point favorite, with the point total set at 45.

Why bet on the New York Jets?

When you have a rookie QB under center, you have to expect that there are going to be games where things go horribly wrong. That has certainly been the case with Sam Darnold, but the rookie has also had some moments that make it seem as though the Jets might have themselves a very reliable QB moving forward.

Where he has struggled badly is in games against very good defenses, such as the one he faced last week, throwing 3 INT’s versus the Vikings on his way to a miserable 5.9 QBR. The Jets have not been a very good pick away from home, going just 1-7 SU in their last 8 road games. During that stretch, they went 2-5-1 ATS, but perhaps more importantly, they have failed to cover in each of their last 5 meetings with the Chicago Bears.

Why bet on the Chicago Bears?

At 3-3, the Bears find themselves at the bottom of the NFC East, although given how things are going in that division this season, a couple wins in a row could change things dramatically. The Bears were at 3-1 and looking very good before losing a heartbreaker to the Dolphins, which they then followed up with a very competitive loss to the red-hot New England Patriots.

Jets vs Bears should be a victory for the home team.

Where the Bears have been a very good bet is at home, where they have gone 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games. This match-up is one that tends to be light on points, with 7 of the last 9 meetings between these two teams going UNDER the point total. The Bears are close to 50% on 3rd down conversions, so look for them to keep drives alive on Sunday against a wobbly Jets defense.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Jets vs Bears

I like the Bears to win this one going away, although I do believe that we are looking at a low-scoring game. Let’s take the Bears to win and cover, and let’s also go with the UNDER.
