Jets at Bills NFL Odds, Expert Analysis & Betting Pick

Written by on September 6, 2017

Before the new NFL season begins, football fans will have spent some time debating records that each team in the league will post this year. The Buffalo Bills are one of those teams that are tough to peg, as they could go 10-6 just as easily as they could go 6-10. Things appear to be a little easier to predict with the New York Jets, as the general consensus with them is that they are going to be truly awful this season. The NFL odds are an indicator of that. Consequently, there are quite a few pundits out there who have them going 0-16 this season, but given how irregularly that has happened, a winless season seems like a bit of a longshot, no matter how bad they are. Therefore, if the Jets are going to win a game or two, they need to take advantage of their games against opponents that are not considered elite, and it’s fair to say that the Bills fall into that category. These two have been evenly matched over the years, which is why it’s a bit of a surprise that the Bills are favored by 9 ½ points in this one. That NFL spread may well be the indicator of just how bad the Jets may be this season, but are they going to be able to surprise everyone, starting with a win in Week 1?

Why Bet on the New York Jets?

The Jets had a pretty awful season last year, going 5-11. As bad as that was, it’s worth remembering that 2 of those 5 wins came against the Buffalo Bills, the last of which was a 30-10 blowout in the final week of the regular season. Games against the Bills aside, the Jets have simply not been very competitive as an underdog over the past couple of seasons. They have only managed 2 wins in their last 11 games as the underdog, and went 3-8 ATS in those games. In addition, they are also just 2-5 straight up and against the spread in their last 7 road games. The Jets are in full rebuilding mode at this point, and they are going to have some legitimate struggles on the offensive side of the football this season, which is not good news when they are about to face a very good Buffalo defense.  Nonetheless, perhaps being ranked as the worst team in the league may take some pressure off a very young team, and that may make it possible for the Jets to steal a game or two.

NFL Week 1 Sure Losers

Why Bet on the Buffalo Bills?

We all know that the Bills are going to be very good defensively, which should serve them well against what looks like a pretty weak Jets offense, but what about the offense. Moreover, Tyrod Taylor would appear to have won the starting QB job, but is he going to be ready to go this weekend. Hence, both he and backup QB TJ Yates were placed in concussion protocol during the preseason, and both were essentially shut down for the last few weeks. On the other hand, even if Taylor is ready to go, he may have some rust and timing issues in the early part of this game. There is a legitimate chance that Nathan Peterman, a rookie QB, may get the start, and he is looking less than impressive in preseason going against second and third string defenses. If he goes, expect to see a healthy dose of the run, and the potential for a low scoring game. NFL Odds: We all know that the Bills are going to be very good defensively, which should serve them well against what looks like a pretty weak Jets offense.

Expert NFL Odds Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think this one is going to be ugly to watch, especially if Buffalo is force to play their 3rd string QB from the start. Hence, I still think Buffalo will come away with the win, but I do not see them being able to cover. Consequently, I also like the UNDER 40 in this one. NFL Odds Pick: New York Jets 9 Buffalo Bills 17
