Division Leaders

Philadelphia Eagles

  • Division: East
  • Current Record: 12-2
The Eagles narrowly got past the Giants 34-29 on Sunday to clinch the NFC East division title and a first-round bye. In my NFC predictions, I’ve got them winning out too by beating Oakland and the hated Cowboys, both, at home over their final two regular-season contests to finish with home-field advantage in the playoffs, although it should be noted that Philly’s defense looked mediocre at best this past weekend.

Minnesota Vikings

  • Division: North
  • Current Record: 11-3
The Vikings clinched the NFC North division title by blowing Cincinnati out 34-7 on Sunday and I like them to close out their 2017 campaign with a pair of wins at Green Bay and at home against the lowly Bears. While there Week 16 road date at Green Bay could be very tricky if Aaron Rodgers decides to suit up, I still like the Vikes to win because they’re clearly the better team this year, particularly on defense. If I were running the Packers organization, I’d also sit my superstar quarterback for the remainder of the season with nothing left to really play for. If the Eagles falter, Minnesota could tie them with 12 wins, but right now, I’m going Philly first and then Minnesota in the NFC playoff race.

Los Angeles Rams

  • Division: West
  • Current Record: 10-4
I don’t know what else t say about the Los Angeles Rams after seeing them beat the hell out of Russell Wilson and a completely desperate Seattle Seahawks team on the road no less, in Sunday’s 42-7 dismantling. Running back Todd Gurley and quarterback Jared Goff now look like certified stars, joining superstar defensive lineman Aaron Donald in that category. L.A. is ranked a stupendous first in scoring (31.3 ppg) and an equally impressive fifth in points allowed (19.4 ppg) and will win out over the next two weeks as they invade Tennessee before coming back home to shut down San Francisco in their regular-season finale.

New Orleans Saints

  • Division: South
  • Current Record: 10-4
Drew Brees and company smacked the Jets are 31-19 on Sunday to improve to 10-4 and they’ve got a difficult matchup in Week 16 as they host the division rival Falcons after losing to Atlanta 20-17 just two weeks ago. However, I like Drew Brees and company to flip the script in their rematch to get the regular season split before closing out Tampa Bay on the road in Week 17 with a resounding loss to finish at 12-4.

In the Hunt

Carolina Panthers

  • Division: South
  • Current Record: 10-4
Carolina (10-4) may not be getting the same amount of national ‘hype’ as some of their aforementioned NFC rivals. But the Panthers look like they’re going to very tough to dispatch at this point. Carolina beat a desperate Packers team 31-24 on Sunday to stay tied with New Orleans atop the NFC South standings even if they did lose to the Saints twice this season. The NFC Predictions for the Panthers are not really good. I’ve got the Panthers easily winning at home against Tampa Bay in Week 16, but I think they could be in for a bit of payback against Atlanta in their regular season finale after beating the Falcons 20-17 at home in Week 9 to finish at 11-5.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Division: South
  • Current Record: 10-4
The Falcons are on the road at Tampa Bay in their Week 15 matchup on Monday night (win) and then they hit the road to face New Orleans this coming Sunday (loss) before finishing up at home against Carolina in a huge NFC South division matchup that could very well determine their postseason fate. According to my NFC predictions, the Falcons will win two of their final three to finish at 10-6.

Detroit Lions

  • Division: North
  • Current Record: 8-6
The Lions are quite lucky that they’ll be facing a Cincinnati team on the road in Week 15 that has already quit on lame duck head coach Marvin Lewis before coming back home to host a Packers team that could sit Aaron Rodgers in a meaningless finale. A pair of wins the next two weeks, to finish at 10-6 looks very doable if you ask me. Unfortunately, Atlanta holds the tie-breaker over them by beating the Lions 30-36 in Week 3.

Dallas Cowboys & Seattle Seahawks

  • Division: East / West
  • Current Record: 8-6
The Cowboys host the Seahawks in a huge Week 16 matchup that I just don’t see inconsistent Seattle winning, especially with the return of Ezekiel Elliott eminent. Unfortunately, I think Dallas will close out its 2017 regular season with a road loss to Philadelphia while Seattle finishes with a resounding home win over Atlanta. With both teams likely finishing at 9-7 and one game behind both, Atlanta and Detroit, I think both could be left on the outside looking in when playoff time arrives, despite being two of the favorites in the NFC predictions at the beginning of the year.
