Why Bet on New York?

The Giants (2-2) lost at the Vikings 24-10. New York star receiver Odell Beckham, who has yet to score this season, was smothered by cornerback Xavier Rhodes and had a career-low 23 yards on three catches. Fellow WRs Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard were quiet, too, and Eli Manning was erratic while finishing 25 for 45 for just 261 yards. Rhodes picked him off in the third quarter, the 15th interception for Manning in eight career starts against the Vikings. The Giants have targeted Beckham in the first quarter just eight times over their first four games. Beckham had a long conversation with Giants general manager Jerry Reese in the locker room after Monday’s game. Beckham took another stupid 15-yard penalty vs. Minnesota and whined this week he wasn’t having fun playing any longer. The Giants are getting fed up with their diva receiver. Two different Giants coaches told him that if Beckham has another outburst this week at the Packers, he will be benched. And “depending on the severity of it, he could be suspended by the team for at least one game, maybe two.” Beckham Jr. (303), Shepard (263) and Cruz (245) have 811 receiving yards combined, the most of any trio in the NFL. Manning needs one win to reach 100 career regular-season victories as a starter. He would become one of only six quarterbacks (Terry Bradshaw, Tom Brady, John Elway, Joe Montana and Ben Roethlisberger) in NFL history to have 100 regular-season victories and two Super Bowls with one team. Through the first quarter of the season, the Giants have struggled to hold onto the ball on offense as well as take it away on defense. Their minus-eight turnover differential is part of the reason they lost their last two games. They also have not recorded a single takeaway on defense, resulting in an average starting field position of 24.3 yards, second-worst in the NFL. But New York has won three straight vs. Green Bay.

Why Bet on Green Bay?

The Packers are pretty healthy off the bye, although tight end Jared Cook and Sam Shields are going to miss this game. Cook will miss perhaps a month with an ankle injury and Shields has been in the concussion protocol for nearly a month after the blow to the head he suffered in the season opener at Jacksonville. There’s growing concern about Shields’ future given that this was his fourth concussion in the past six years. Clay Matthews (ankle/hamstring) appears on track to return Sunday night against the Giants. The Packers outside linebacker missed his first game since the 2013 season when he sat out Week 3 vs. the Lions. Morgan Burnett (groin), Datone Jones (knee) and Letroy Guion (knee) all returned to practice this week as well. Green Bay has won 10 consecutive home games during the month of October. The Packers’ last October loss at home came by three points in an overtime game against the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 17, 2010. The Packers have won seven of the last eight Sunday Night Football games played at home. The Packers are playing at home in the week after the bye for the fourth time in the Mike McCarthy era. Green Bay has won each of the previous three. The last time the Packers played at home after the bye was in 2014, a 55-14 win over Chicago. In games immediately following its bye week, Green Bay has won 15 of its last 20 (.750), including wins in six of the last seven.
