NFL Preseason Odds Jets vs. Giants

NY Jets at NY Giants NFL Preseason Odds & Betting Prediction

Written by on August 25, 2017

We have yet to make it out of the NFL preseason, but all the football pundits have already made their predictions for the 2017 NFL season. Many of the people in that esteemed group have the Jets as the worst team in the league this year, and given how they performed last season, it does not seem like a particularly difficult prediction to make, especially when it comes to adding the updated betting odds for this NFL season. Defensively this preseason, the Jets have not looked particularly bad, but they have been downright awful on offense.

It’s never a good idea to get too up or down based on the performances of a team in the preseason, but there has to be legitimate cause for concern with what the guys in green and white are doing on the offensive side of the football. As for the Giants, it’s tough to know what to make of them this coming season. They have a good group of receivers, but can Eli Manning deliver one greater season? Speaking of receivers, the Giants are likely to be without the services of Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshal for this game, as both were injured in Week 2 of the preseason.

NFL Preseason Straight Up Stats

The Jets only managed to put together 5 wins last season, and there are plenty of people who believe that their win total could be even less in 2017. In the past 3 seasons, the Jets have posted a rather brutal 19-29 record, and went just 8-14 as the away team. They will come into this one as the underdog, which is not good when you consider that the last 3 seasons saw them go 4-11 as a road dog.

The Giants had a solid 11-6 record last season, losing in the Wild Card round in the playoffs. They have been a little up and down over the past 3 seasons, posting a 23-26 record, which included a 13-11 record at home. The Giants have proven to be a very good bet over the past 3 seasons when in as the home favorite, going 11-4 during that stretch.

NFL Preseason Point Spread Stats

The Jets did not put up much of a fight last year, particularly in the second half of the season, going just 6-10 ATS. That took their 3-year record to just 20-25-3, which is down near the bottom of the pack in the NFL. Things were also pretty bad with the Jets as the away team, as their ATS record in those games was 8-11-3, which included going 5-8-2 as the road dog.

The New York Giants were a little better when playing at home, as they were able to go 13-11 ATS since 2014 NFL Preseason.

The Giants were right in the middle of the pack ATS last season with a 9-7-1 record, which took their 3-year tally to 24-23-2. The New York Giants were a little better when playing at home, as they were able to go 13-11 ATS since 2014. As a home favorite during this time, they posted an 8-7 record ATS, making them a little bit of a coin flip bet.

OVER/UNDER Stats

The O/U for this one is set at 39 points. The Jets were poor on offense last season, yet still saw 7 of their 16 games go over. Since 2014, the Jets are 22-26 O/U, which includes a record of 10-12 as the away team. When the Jets were on the road as the underdog during this stretch, they went 7-8.

Your best bet with the Giants last season was the UNDER, as they posted a 5-12 O/U record, taking their 3-year total in this betting category to 26-23, showing that last season was a bit of an aberration. The Giants went 13-11 O/U as the home team, and 8-7 as the home favorite.

Expert NFL Preseason Pick and Final Score Prediction

Given the current state of both of these teams, I think it’s fair to suggest that we are not going to see a lot of scoring in this game. I like the Giants to win and cover the 5-point spread, but this is one that I think is doomed to go UNDER.
