Odds On NFC Team Winning The 2017 NFL Super Bowl

Written by on January 23, 2017

At the start of this season, there were not a lot of people who gave the Atlanta Falcons much of a shot of winning their division, never mind making it all the way to Super Bowl 51. They have defied the odds, though, and have looked very impressive doing it. The Falcons are in possession of the best offense in football, and while it looked as though the defense may prove to be their Achilles heel, that group has also come together, and have looked very solid in the final few weeks of the season. Atlanta are a deserving participant in the upcoming Super Bowl, but they lack the experience that their opponents, the New England Patriots, will be bringing to the table. That is why they are coming into the big game as the underdog, but let’s take a closer look at their Super Bowl 51 betting odds to see what they have.

In Depth Analysis On The Odds On NFC Team Winning The 2017 NFL Super Bowl

Odds on the Atlanta Falcons to Win Straight Up

Despite their offensive prowess and their impressive road to the Super Bowl, the Atlanta Falcons are still coming into this one as an underdog, with their straight up odds set at +135. This is not particularly surprising given that they have not had a lot of success in the postseason in the Matt Ryan era. The Falcons have only been to the big game once, and they ended up losing that one to the Denver Broncos in a game that was not particularly close. The Broncos team they faced back then was similar to the Patriots team of this season in that they had a ton of playoff experience.

Odds on the Atlanta Falcons to Win Against the Spread

The early line has the Falcons as a 3-point underdog, which is not a big spread to overcome, especially when you consider how this offense has been firing on all cylinders over the last 6 weeks. Matt Ryan has 18 TD and 0 INT’s during that stretch, and the defense, which was much maligned in the early part of the year has suddenly done a good job of slamming the door shut. The Falcons have gone 11-6 ATS this season, and have covered in both of their playoff games so far.

Playing the Over/Under in the Super Bowl

Anyone who has been paying attention to this Falcons team this season will know that this is team that is an offensive juggernaut. They looked as though they were going to score every time they got the ball against the Packers, which isn’t a huge surprise given that they have been the best offensive team in the league all season long. They are going against a very solid Patriots defense, though, and will have to be at their very best. 15 of the 18 games that the Falcons have played this season have gone OVER, so this might be a solid bet, even with the number set at a rather lofty 58.5 points.
