NFL Preseason Week 3

  • When: August 17 – August 23

Denver Broncos at Buffalo Bills -4 | Saturday, August 20

There’s no reason for Buffalo to play quarterback Josh Allen. But even if Allen doesn’t see the field, the Bills’ backups, Case Keenum and Matt Barkley, are more than capable of getting it done.

Like Allen, Russell Wilson figures to sit. If Wilson plays, it won’t be for long, which is why even if Russell steps onto the field, Buffalo is the pick to cover.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Buffalo Bills

Las Vegas Raiders -2 at Miami Dolphins | Saturday, August 20

Raiders’ head coach Josh McDaniels recently said he doesn’t want to reveal too much during preseason. Although it’s true, coaches shouldn’t reveal too much in meaningless games, McDaniels will want quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Davante Adams to get on the same page.

Quarterbacks and wideouts can only do so much during practice. Expect the duo to get at least three series together, which means the Raiders should cover this spread.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Las Vegas Raiders

Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars -3.5 | Saturday, August 20

Steelers’ rookie Kenny Pickett got some playing time in the first preseason game and he performed well. Expect Pickett to play even more snaps in this game because Pittsburgh is considering trading Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky is their starter.

The Jaguars sparingly played Trevor Lawrence in the loss to the Cleveland Browns. Expect Lawrence to play at least a half on Saturday.

Doug Pederson won’t want Lawrence to put in too much work in the final preseason game. So this contest is where Pederson loosens the reigns. Jacksonville is the play.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars

Philadelphia Eagles -2.5 at Cleveland Browns | Sunday, August 21

The Browns heard that Deshaun Watson must miss 11 games this season. Without Watson, Cleveland won’t succeed versus rivals Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cincinnati.

Even with Watson, beating their AFC North rivals was up in the air. As far as this preseason game is concerned, Philly will let Jalen Hurts do his thing for close to a half. That will be all that the Eagles require to cover the spread.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Philadelphia Eagles

Cincinnati Bengals at New York Giants -5.5 | Sunday, August 21

It’s doubtful Joe Burrow plays. But backup Brandon Allen is decent. He might be decent enough for the Bengals to win this straight up.

The Giants have two quarterbacks with starting experience, Tyrod Taylor and Daniel Jones. At least one will play on Sunday, which is why the Giants are such huge favorites. But even if both play, coach Brian Daboll may not open the playbook. Daboll will want to keep his best stuff in his pocket. Cincinnati covers.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Cincinnati Bengals

Atlanta Falcons -2.5 at New York Jets | Monday, August 22

Atlanta could be a sneaky good team this season. The Falcons will employ an RPO type offense around Marcus Mariota, Desmond Ridder, or both.

Ridder rushed for a 9.8 per carry average and threw 2 TDs in the ATL’s preseason week 1 victory over the Detroit Lions. Another great performance should lead to another Falcons win and cover.

NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick: Atlanta Falcons
