AFC East

Sure, Tom Brady could miss four games to start the season for his role in Deflategate, but the New England Patriots are still my NFL futures bet predictions pick to win the AFC East with Buffalo beating out the New York Jets for second place, unless they re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick that is. The Patriots have the best head coach and quarterback in the division and addressed their offseason needs solidly through the draft and free agency. The Buffalo Bills should be better in 2016 after underachieving in Rex Ryan’s first season a year ago while the New York Jets could take a step backwards after winning a stunning 10 games in Todd Bowles’ first season. Last but not least, until I se otherwise, I still don’t trust Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill and I’m not sure how Adam Gase will fare in his first year as a head coach, making the Fins my pick to finish last. Winner: New England

AFC West

I know the Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 last season, but for me, the Kansas City Chiefs are my pick to win the AFC West in 2016 for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, I think Kansas City will be able to build on last season’s double-digit win season because of the return of veteran running back Jamal Charles and a handful of smart transactions Kansas City made this offseason. Next, I fully expect the Broncos to take a step backwards because of their tenuous quarterback situation. Denver will enter the new season with mediocre veteran Mark Sanchez and inexperienced rookie Paxton Lynch as their top two signal-callers and that simply doesn’t bode well for the Broncos. As it stands right now, I’m going with 11 wins for Kansas City and either nine or 10 for Denver. Winner: Kansas City

AFC North

The AFC North is perennially one of the best in football with three legitimate title contenders in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baltimore. With the Ravens looking to bounce back from a disastrous, injury-riddled five-win season in 2015, the AFC North looks like a two-team race in 2016 between the Bengals and Steelers. Right now, I’ve got Cincinnati narrowly beating out Pittsburgh to win the AFC North in 2016, mostly because I believe Andy Dalton and company are going to be on a mission to really contend for an appearance in Super Bowl 51 after having their postseason run derailed because of an injury to Dalton a year ago. Secondly, while I love the Steelers’ trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, I won’t trust Pittsburgh’s defense until I see them in the preseason at the earliest. Winner: Cincinnati

AFC South

The Indianapolis Colts are looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled 8-8 campaign to regain their AFC South conference crown, but the reinvigorated Houston Texans could be hard to beat out after acquiring former Broncos’ quarterback Brock Osweiler in free agency. Houston has recorded consecutive nine-win seasons and I think they’ll reach that figure again at the very least in 2016, but for me, a return to full health from gifted quarterback Andrew Luck – and some added motivation for their past postseason failures – makes the Indianapolis Colts the pick to narrowly win the AFC South in 2016. Both teams had excellent drafts with the Colts nabbing center Ryan Kelly in the first round and Houston adding speedy wide receiver Will Fuller. Indy also added veteran cornerback Patrick Robinson in free agency to start as their No.2 corner while the Texans added veteran running back Lamar Miller to likely start in their backfield. Winner: Indianapolis Colts

NFC East

The Washington Redskins won the mediocre NFC East last season, but they’re not my pick to repeat as division champs, although I’ll admit, they could. The Dallas Cowboys are praying for a full season of good health from starting quarterback Tony Romo and drafted electrifying running back Ezekiel Elliott and I believe they could be in for a solid nine-win season at the least if Romo says upright and healthy. Washington added Pro Bowl cornerback Josh Norman and drafted gifted wide receiver Josh Doctson, but I’m not a real big believer in quarterback Kirk Cousins or head coach Jay Gruden for that matter. The New York Giants Fired longtime head coach Tom Coughlin and replaced him with first-time head coach Ben McAdoo, so it remains to be seen how he will do in his new role. The G-Men were active in free agency and lost a bunch of games by six points or less last season, but I’m not expecting anything beyond an 8-8 finish at best for New York. With the Philadelphia Eagles in a bit of a rebuild ad playing under a first-year head coach in Doug Pederson, I’m expecting the Birds to hover around .500 all season at best in 2016. Winner: Dallas Cowboys

NFC West

The Arizona Cardinals won an impressive 13 games last season to win the NFC West over the Seattle Seahawks, but I think they’re primed for a reverse order finish at the top of the division in 2016. Seattle got two immediate impact players in guard Germain Ifedi (first round) and defensive tackle Jarran Reed (2nd round) and their trio of third round picks (running back C.J. Prosise, tight end Nick Vannett and guard Rees Odhiambo). Arizona also got an impact player in defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche and a likely immediate nickel back in cornerback Brandon Williams. Seattle has plenty of motivation and should be able to utilize tight end Jimmy Graham much better into their offense in his second season. Winner: Seattle Seahawks

NFC North

The Minnesota Vikings wrested division supremacy away from the Green Bay Packers in 2015 and I fully expect them to reap as division champs in 2016, though the Packers will give them a run for their money. Minnesota added a pair of explosive players in the NFL draft that could become immediate starters in wide receiver Laquon Treadwell (first round) and cornerback Mackensie Alexander (second round). The Packers nabbed defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the first round and offensive tackle Jason Spriggs in the second round, but they’ve also got question marks at inside linebacker where they need to find a suitable replacement so Clay Mathews can move back outside. I like the Vikings to win the NFC North by bagging 11 wins minimum. Winner: Minnesota Vikings

NFC South

The Carolina Panthers nearly ran the table in the regular season a year ago, finishing with a stunning 15 wins while reaching Super Bowl 50 along the way. While Cam Newton and company fell short in their quest for their first Super Bowl title, Carolina looks like a runaway winner in the NFC South again in 2016. The Panthers loaded up on defensive players in the draft by grabbing defensive tackle Vernon Butler in the first round, followed by a trio of cornerbacks with their ensuing three picks to soften the blow of losing elite corner, Josh Norman. My NF futures bet prediction is that Carolina will record at least 11 wins next season to easily win the division by three games over second place Atlanta, third place New Orleans and last place Tampa Bay. Winner: Carolina Panthers
