Odell and Julio top list of remaining NFL free agents

If anyone had asked three seasons ago to name the two best wide recievers in the NFL, many would have said Odell Beckham Jr. and Julio Jones. Things have changed a lot from three seasons ago.

Neither Odell nor Julio has a home. Most thought Jones was a lock to reconnect with Matt Ryan in Indianapolis. But the Colts seem okay with their current group.

Beckham Jr. could still end up a Los Angeles Ram. But Odell is coming off an injury he suffered in the Super Bowl.

Both players have a lot left to offer. So even though neither has a home yet, it’s a matter of time. Jones, especially, could pay dividends for a team like the New Orleans Saints, who have a decent WR group, but may want to add depth.

Washington Commanders extend WR Terry McLaurin

The Commanders made a move to acquire Carson Wentz during the offseason. This past week, Washington handed an extension to the player most expect becomes Wentz’s top target in D.C., Terry McLaurin.

McLaurin signed a 3-year deal worth up to $71 million. The most amazing thing about the contract is that the Commanders handed Terry a $28 million signing bonus. The signing bonus is the highest in history every given to a wide receiver.

How good is McLaurin? We don’t know. He’s got a high-ceiling that’s for sure, but he has yet to play with a quarterback as talented as Wentz. If Carson helps Terry raise his game and vice-versa, Washington could be a surprise team in the NFC this season.

Seattle owner Jody Allen says the Seahawks aren’t for sale . . . yet

Jody Allen, the late Paul Allen’s wife and current Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers owner, said neither one of the sports franchises are up for sale.

Phil Knight, the former CEO of Nike, had put in a bid to purchase the Blazers. But Allen said the NBA team isn’t up for sale.

Neither are the Seahawks. At least, Seattle and Portland aren’t up for sale right now. Allen said that eventually she intends on selling both franchises. She just doesn’t want to sell right now.

The biggest issue could be the overall economy. Inflation is wreaking havoc across the United States. Everyone’s investments are down. So Allen could be waiting for the market to turn positive so she can get the most she can for the Trail Blazers and the Seahawks.

Cleveland trades Baker to Carolina

Baker Mayfield has a new home. Even though the Cleveland Browns have no idea if Deshaun Watson will play this season, or if he plays if he will be as effective as he was in the past, the Browns parted with Baker Mayfield.

Cleveland got a conditional draft pick for unloading Mayfield. The pick will be either a fourth or fifth round depending on how well Baker plays.

The Browns were so intent on getting rid of Mayfield that they will  pay over $10 million of his salary while the Panthers will pay less than $5 million.

Some experts are saying Mayfield won’t start ahead of Sam Darnold. That’s crazy. When Baker takes his time, he’s a good quarterback. Darnold is a bad quarterback no matter the situation.

For his part, Mayfield said he’d convert $18.8 million of his salary into incentives to facilitate the deal. That’s a sign the former number one overall pick is ready to roll.
