NFL Week 8 Betting Analysis & Expert ATS Picks

Written by on October 23, 2017

If we have learned anything through the first 7 weeks of the 2017 NFL season, it’s that the parity in this league is unlike anything we have seen before. There are a couple of teams that are simply awful, but for the first time in a long time, there are not a lot of teams who are flexing their muscle week in and week out. The Philadelphia Eagles are the only team in the league with a single loss, and that record may be in trouble on Monday Night when they take on the Washington Redskins, which is why our NFL Week 8 betting analysis will be more helpful than ever. Let’s take a look ahead to midseason to see if we can pick out some teams who will cover the NFL Week 8 Spread, but keep in mind this parity has helped keep games close, even when the betting odds suggest that they should not be. It has made picking ATS that much tougher, but we bettors love a challenge, so let’s do it!

NFL Week 8 Betting Analysis & Expert ATS Picks

Top NFL Betting Picks & Predictions for Week 8

Minnesota Vikings (-7 ½) vs. Cleveland Browns

We have grown accustomed to the circus that is the Cleveland Browns, but this was supposed to be the season when a crop of new young players started pointing this franchise in the right direction. Things have not gone to plan, though, and this team is beginning to look like a pretty solid bet to go 0-16. Cleveland is just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games, and look as though they are going to have a tough time moving the football on what is a very good Minnesota Vikings defense. The Vikings do not have a powerhouse offense to draw upon, but I’m sure they can do more than enough to cover this spread.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Cleveland is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Cleveland is 2-10 ATS in its last 12 games at home
  • Browns are 2-5 ATS in 2017 regular season
  • Minnesota is 3-3 ATS in 2017 regular season

New England Patriots (-7) vs. LA Chargers

The New England Patriots came into this season with some rather lofty expectations placed on their heads. There was a lot of talk about a 19-0 season, all of which stopped the moment the Super Bowl champions were pounded by the Chiefs in the opening week of the season. The Patriots have not looked very good at times this season, but there are signs that the ship is being righted. A 23-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night was quite possibly their best all-around performance of the season, and that does not bode well for the 3-4 Chargers this coming weekend.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Chargers are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games
  • Chargers are 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games on the road
  • Los Angeles is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games when playing New England
  • Patriots are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games
  • Patriots are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games at home

Indianapolis Colts (+10) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Given their current records, these are a pair of teams that are playing for nothing but pride in the second half of the season. Both teams are coming off big losses where they were dominated by their opponent, which is often tough to bounce back from. The Colts are looking increasingly as though they are going to close out the season without ever seeing QB Andrew Luck take the field, which means they are going to continue to struggle to score points. That said, I don’t think the Bengals are in a position to blow out this Colts team, which is why I like Indianapolis to cover as a 10-point underdog. Andy Dalton and the Bengals are huge NFL Week 8 Betting favorites against the Colts.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Indianapolis is 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games
  • Indianapolis is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Colts are 3-4 ATS in 2017 regular season
  • Bengals are 3-3 ATS in 2017 regular season
  • Cincinnati is 3-6 ATS in its last 9 games when playing at home against Indianapolis

Pittsburgh Steelers (-3) vs. Detroit Lions

The Pittsburgh Steelers now need to be considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl, especially if their young defense can continue to light teams up like they did versus the Bengals in Week 7. This will be a good test for them on Sunday night, especially since the Lions have a QB and an offense that can put some big numbers on the board. LeVeon Bell is back in prime form for the Steelers, and if he can continue to run the ball well, which I believe he will, then Pittsburgh can chew up the clock and keep the Detroit offense off the field. I like the Steelers to win and cover on Sunday night.

Latest NFL Week 8 Betting Trends

  • Steelers are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Steelers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games on the road
  • Pittsburgh is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Detroit
  • Lions are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games
  • Lions are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games at home
