NFL Props Odds Picks – Where Will Cam Newton Suit Up Next?

NFL Props Odds Picks – Where Will Cam Newton Suit Up Next?

Written by on March 27, 2020

Whether you love him or loathe him, there’s no denying that, when healthy, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is a sight to behold and a player that no defender really wanted to take on when he was at his very best. While he’s never been the most accurate signal-caller around, Newton’s unique skill-set once made him the best dual-threat quarterback in the game. Sure, he wasn’t going to throw for 350 yards with three TD passes on a consistent basis, but Newton was a quarterback that made plays when they needed to be made more often than not.

However, there is some downside to the 2015 NFL MVP winner as we look forward and speculate on his immediate future. After finishing the 2018 campaign on the injured list, Newton missed all of last season while trying to come back from major shoulder surgery on his throwing arm when it was found out he also had a Lisfranc injury to his foot that would require a three-to-five month recovery time. In addition to that, there’s the fact that Newton is a huge ‘drama queen’ that often can’t get out of the spotlight or his own way.

While he’s apparently not going to be a starter in 2020, Newton is still a relatively young quarterback at 30-years-old and he could be completely healthy the next time he takes to the gridiron, so some teams will definitely come calling. Newton will have some options on the table at some point and he’ll probably be looking at situations where he could possible become the starter at some point in the near future.

Let’s take a look at the NFL odds of where Cam Newton will call home next season before I offer up some fun-filled expert insight and fun-filled prediction.

NFL Props Odds Picks – Where Will Cam Newton Suit Up Next?

Cam Newton’s Next Team Odds

Redskins +125

With Ron Rivera finally escaping Newton’s long shadow after being joined at the hip for the entirety of their respective nine-year careers in Carolina, I can unequivocally say that there is no way in hell that newton lands with Washington!

Patriots +170

The patriots are definitely a quarterback needy team seeing as how they currently boats a trio of Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer and Cody Kessler that isn’t going to scare anyone. If he could get him to buy into his staid ways and Patriots style of selflessness, I say there’s a small chance newton could end up with the Patriots. Then again, no matter how hard I try, I just can’t see Belichick and the often mercurial Newton ever co-existing.

Dolphins +250

Miami has a veteran ‘bridge starter’ in Ryan Fitzpatrick and they’ll be drafting their quarterback of the future in this year’s draft. The Dolphins are hoping they land Tua Tagovailoa, but they could very well end up with Justin Herbert. Either way, there’s really no place for Newton in South Beach.

Jaguars +900

The Jags are set to go with Gardner Minshew II after he opened some eyes as a rookie last season by going 6-6 in a dozen starts while throwing 21 TD passes and six interceptions in 14 appearances. Still some reports have the Jags potentially going for Jordan Love with the ninth overall pick while others like Jacksonville to take an interior defensive lineman like Derrick Brown or Javon Kinlaw. No matter what happens with the draft, I think the Jags should at least out in a feeler to see what it would take to land Newton. Then again, I also struggle to envision Newton working well with ‘old-school’ head coach Doug Marrone, so there’s that!

Raiders +1000

Had the Raiders not added Marcus Mariota in free agency, I’d say there was a pretty good chance that Jon Gruden would give Newton a shot to challenge Derek Carr. Now though, there’s almost no chance he ends up in Las Vegas in 2020.

Broncos +1000

The Broncos think they have their guy in 2019 second round pick Drew Lock after he went 4-1 in five late season starts while tossing seven TD passes and three interceptions. Denver also went out and signed underrated veteran Jeff Driskel as their backup. The broncos also have the raw Brett Rypien as their No. 3 clipboard holder.

Steelers +2000

While it’s all fine and well that franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be back in action once the 2020 regular season gets underway, but the fact of the matter is that Big Ben is now 38-years-old and clearly on the downside of what will end up being a Hall of Fame career. Roethlisberger has thrown at least 13 picks in each of his last four full seasons while reaching the 30 TD plateau just once along the way. The Steelers have Mason Rudolph as the backup along with Devlin Hodges as the third-stringer, but Newton would immediately supplant both players. More importantly, he could potentially replace Roethlisberger in a year or two and head coach Mike Timlin is a guy that could deal with his big personality. It might not look likely, but I don’t think it would the worst fit ever.

Bengals +4000

Finally, there’s Cincinnati. The Bengals are going all in of former LSU star Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. While I’m not personally sold on the Heisman trophy winner, the Bengals are and that’s all that matters. Anyway, the chance of Cam Newton enduing up in Cincinnati is absolutely zero.

Prediction

The best places that Newton has a chance to start at some point in the near future, look like New England, Jacksonville, Denver and Pittsburgh in the AFC and possibly Detroit in the NFC. I also believe Newton could potentially look at the L.A. Chargers, but my best guess is that the former MVP ends up in Jacksonville, looking to replace Gardner Minshew II as the starter for the foreseeable future.

Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars +900
