Tampa Bay Lightning are a force, but . . . 

The Tampa Bay Lightning sure look like the team to beat. The Lightning dominated the Boston Bruins in the second round in 4 games for the sweep.

Tampa beat the Bruins 4-3, 7-1, 3-1, and 3-2. In the first Eastern Conference Finals game, Tampa Bay blasted the New York Islanders 8-2. No wonder NHL Championship future bettors have driven the Lightning’s odds down to an under even money -110. Tampa Bay appears dead set on winning the Cup.

But before dumping on the Lightning, we must study the New York Islanders. At +1200, it feels as if nobody believes the Islanders can come back against Tampa Bay. That’s not true. The Islanders beat the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers to get to this point.

They know that Tampa dominated Game 1. But, Game 1 happened after a 7-game battle versus the Philadelphia Flyers. The Islanders had a reason to bounce after such a gargantuan effort to beat the Flyers.

In Game 2 on Wednesday night, the New York Islanders should give the Tampa Bay Lightning a much better fight. Wait for that game to happen before putting it all on the Lightning.  

Expect Stars versus Golden Knights to go seven

Dallas broke out the best defense in hockey to get past the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 in the Western Conference Finals first game. Dallas is a versatile squad, which means they can either play a defensive style or offensive style.

That will make things tough on the Golden Knights. But, Vegas will find a way to win at least 3 games in this series. The Golden Knights struggled against Vancouver as a heavy favorite. In hindsight, that’s because all of us discounted Vancouver’s true chances.

Vegas won’t look past Dallas. Also, they lost Game 1 by a single goal. Expect Vegas to pick it up in Game 2 on September 8.

Back the team you believe can win the Stanley Cup!

The four teams in the NHL Stanley Cup Conference Finals have played just a single game. Odds remain more than fair on every team other than, possibly, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

If Tampa takes a 2-0 series lead on the New York Islanders on Wednesday, consider the -110 a gift, though. That means even the Tampa Bay Lightning offer fair odds. Back the team you believe hoists the Cup.
