NHL 2-city Canadian bubble concept is working

The NHL has employed a 2-city bubble concept. It works similar to what the NBA has done. However, it’s not as extreme, but it does cut down on travel as teams in the west are playing in Edmonton while teams in the east are playing in Toronto.

So far, things have worked as planned. Like the National Basketball Association, there have been no positive coronavirus tests and the play has been excellent.

Unlike the NBA, though, the NHL is playing in qualifying playoff series. What this means is that teams on the brink, like the Carolina Panthers and New York Rangers, play each other until one of the teams wins the qualifying series.

The Rangers, as an example, could get knocked out of the Toronto bubble as early as Tuesday night. New York is down 0-2 against Carolina heading into their August 4 match.

If Carolina beats the Rangers, there’s no need for the teams to play a Game 4 scheduled for Thursday.

That means the NHL’s return to play is more of a tournament akin to MLS is Back! than anything else.

Exciting hockey? Absolutely! But it’s disappointing for fans of teams that won’t last past this week.

At least the league is in no danger of not finishing the season. MLB had some huge issues last week with Covid positives.

The National Hockey League looks on track to produce an awesome Stanley Cup Finals, which means they’re restart plan is a good one.

Hurricanes, Islanders, Jets, Wild, and Coyotes getting love to win the Cup

Check out the big Stanley Cup odds movers on MyBookie.

Carolina Hurricanes from +4500 to +2000 – Heading into Tuesday’s match, Canes are up 2-0 over the Rangers.

New York Islanders from +5000 to +2500 – Heading into Tuesday’s match, Islanders are up 1-0 over the Florida Panthers.

Arizona Coyotes from +4500 to +3500 – Heading into Tuesday’s match, Coyotes are up 1-0 against the Nashville Predators.

Minnesota Wild from +5000 to +3500 – Minnesota is up 1-0 against Vancouver heading into their Tuesday game.

Winnipeg Jets from +5000 to +3500 – The Jets and Calgary are tied 1-1 heading into their Wednesday, August 5 matchup.

Columbus Blue Jackets from +5000 to +2500 – Columbus is up 1-0 over bubble team Toronto. The two hit the ice for Game 2 on Wednesday, August 5.

Of the big movers, we must take the Hurricanes the most seriously. Carolina lost to the Boston Bruins in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals. The team is solid.

Consider backing Carolina. Also give looks to the Minnesota Wild and Winnipeg Jets. Both teams have played well so far.

Have a great week!
