NHL Playoffs Odds, Round 2: Devils vs Hurricanes, Kraken vs Stars Betting Analysis and Prediction

The second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs is slowly but surely coming to a close, with 2 of the 4 series on the brink of being over. That said, the remaining 2 matchups are knotted at 2-2 after the opening 4 games, so we still have some hockey to be played before we know which teams will be headed to the conference finals. We have a pair of games set to go on Thursday night, with the potential for one series to come to an end. We are going to get into those games and make some NHL predictions, but before we do that, let’s recap what went down last night.

Recap of 5/11 Round 2 Games

The Toronto Maple Leafs got a monkey off their back with a Round 1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, but it’s beginning to look as though that will be their sole success in these playoffs. They went into Game 4 of their series with the Florida Panthers in an 0-3 hole, but they staved off elimination with a 2-1 win, pushing the series to a Game 5. The odds, though, are still heavily stacked against them.

The pressure was very much on the Edmonton Oilers, who went into Game 4 against the Vegas Golden Knights down 2-1. They put in a solid showing and came away with a 4-1 win, tying the series at 2-2 in the process. This always felt like a series set to go the distance, and it certainly appears to be headed that way.

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes

When: Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: PNC Arena, Raleigh, NC
TV / Streaming: TNT

Hurricanes Lead 3-1 | The Devils head into Game 4 on the brink of elimination, and they will now need to find a way to try and get a road win to stay alive. They lost the opening 2 games of this series on the road, and while they did grab a lifeline with a Game 3 win, the chances of them winning 3 in a row against the Hurricanes seems slim.

You have to give credit to the Hurricanes, who shrugged off an 8-4 loss to the Devils in Game 3 to rally back and lay an absolute beating in Game 4 with a 6-1 win. In the games that they have won in this series, Carolina has outscored New Jersey 17-3. That’s about as lopsided as it gets.

I like the Hurricanes to close things out on Thursday night, although I think this one might be a little closer.

Seattle Kraken at Dallas Stars

When: Thursday, May 11 at 9:30 pm ET
Where: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
TV / Streaming: TNT

Series Tied 2-2 | Seeing the Kraken make it into the playoffs in just their second season as a franchise was a fantastic story, but they have proven that they are not just here to make up the numbers. They stunned the Colorado Avalanche in Round 1 and are now giving the Stars all they can handle. Can they, though, nab another road win.

The Stars went down 2-1 to the Minnesota Wild in Round 1 before rallying to win 3 in a row and take the series. Can they now do the same to the Kraken from a similar position? Dallas has not ever had the series lead, but they can do that on home ice with a win on Thursday night.

I think we get another close one here, but I do like the Stars to get their noses in front.
