Week 3 Rundown: Top NHL Betting Matchups of the Week

Written by on October 24, 2022

The 2022-23 NHL season is fully underway, and we’re starting to see trends emerge across the league. Some teams, like the Columbus Blue Jackets, exceed oddsmaker and preseason expectations, while others struggle to gain momentum.

We’ll review the upcoming week of the NHL season to find the best matchups to watch and the best betting matchups for each day.

NHL 2022 Week 3 Rundown

Monday, October 24

One of the games that should be listed as an important game on Monday’s schedule should be the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Vegas Golden Knights. The Maple Leafs versus Golden Knights should be among the more interesting games to watch.

From a betting standpoint, we’re favoring the Golden Knights, whose start to the season and goaltending has been far more impressive than Toronto’s.

Don’t bet on anything but the over – if listed at 6.5 – on the Pittsburgh Penguins versus Edmonton Oilers matchup. This is a game to watch, not necessarily one to pick on the moneyline.

Monday’s best bet is in the Carolina Hurricanes versus Vancouver Canucks matchup. The Canucks have had a relatively poor start to the season, while the Carolina Hurricanes look like a team waiting for spring hockey to start, and it’s only October. The Hurricanes will be the favorite on the moneyline and our pick because they should win this game.

Tuesday, October 25

There are ten games on Tuesday’s NHL schedule. The team to watch for pure entertainment all season long will be the Buffalo Sabres

We’ll take Buffalo over Seattle. Tuesday night’s schedule features two heavyweight east-meets-west matchups. First, the Colorado Avalanche face the New York Rangers before the Pittsburgh Penguins face the Calgary Flames.

Tuesday’s best bet is a 7 P.M. start and will have among the lowest amount of viewers. The Columbus Blue Jackets are on a winning streak and will be looking to make it four wins in a row against the lowly Arizona Coyotes. We’re taking CB J to win on the moneyline and cover the spread against an Arizona team they should beat in Tuesday’s top-betting matchup.

Wednesday, October 26

There are only three games on Wednesday’s schedule. Our game of the night will be the Edmonton Oilers versus the St. Louis Blues. Our top betting pick for the night is for the Tampa Bay Lighting to beat the Anaheim Ducks on the moneyline.

Thursday, October 27

Most of the exciting action from Thursday’s NHL schedule is in the earlier games. The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins meet in a matchup between a constant contender nearing the end of its run and a former league powerhouse primed for a return to the spotlight. We’d be siding with Detroit for our wagers on this game.

The Red Wings versus the Bruins will be great to watch, as will the Florida Panthers versus the Philadelphia Flyers, but we have two best betting games from Thursday’s schedule. First, we like the Buffalo Sabres’ style of play this year. We’re taking the Sabres to defeat the Montreal Canadiens.

Second, eventually, the Vancouver Canucks will win a game. However, the Canucks cross-border rival, the Seattle Kraken, will likely be a slight favorite. This game could go either way, but we’re siding with the Kraken to make Vancouver’s miserable start to the season continue and cover the spread in the process.

Friday, October 28

Friday night’s NHL schedule features six games, and we’d be silly not to suggest taking the Carolina Hurricanes to add to their win total on the moneyline, who will defeat the New York Islanders.

Colorado has struggled to gain momentum early in the season, while New Jersey looks to be on the competitive upswing. This should be a great game to watch and provide better-than-normal odds on the Avs, increasing the value of a Colorado win on the road.

We have two choices for your best bet on Friday night: the Winnipeg Jets defeating the Arizona Coyotes and the Vegas Golden Knights defeating the Anaheim Ducks, but the Ducks’ John Gibson keeping this one within the puck line spread.

Saturday, October 29

There are twelve games on Saturday’s schedule. We have a few must-see games on Saturday, including the Carolina Hurricanes versus the Philadelphia Flyers, the battle of the Tkachuk’s, when the Ottawa Senators face the Florida Panthers, and the Edmonton Oilers renewing their inner-provincial rivalry with the Calgary Flames. None of these games are our best betting picks for Saturday’s NHL schedule.

With a very busy schedule, we’ve got three best bets for you: the Buffalo Sabres to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks, the Tampa Bay Lightning to defeat the San Jose Sharks and cover the puck line spread of -1.5, and the Colorado Avalanche to win on the road against the New York Islanders.

This will be the Avs’ second game in as many nights, so more ambitious bettors might find very good value from an unexpected Islanders win. Still, we favor the Avs on the moneyline.
