In the NHL this week, there are some marquee matchups to look forward to involving playoff contenders. There are also plenty of value betting opportunities to be found throughout the week on the ice. Here, we look at the top betting opportunities in hockey this week, which involve many of those contenders in positions that could be beneficial to bettors.
Tuesday: Panthers vs. Penguins
On Tuesday, the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins will get after it on the ice in a huge game for both teams. They enter this week with the Penguins holding onto the final Wild Card position, with the Panthers just a few points behind them. This game in Pittsburgh could be one where the home team has the advantage based on the scheduling for both teams coming in.
Florida will be on the second leg of a road back-to-back for this game, as they are playing at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers the night before. That is a very difficult stretch to deal with, as the Panthers have a losing record on the road before factoring in back-to-backs. The Penguins should be the fresher team in this game and will be further energized by their home crowd.
Friday: Devils vs. Stars
An exciting inter-conference matchup will take place on Friday night, as the New Jersey Devils take on the Dallas Stars. Both teams are in playoff positions in their respective conferences, and will be sufficiently rested for this game, as neither team is on a back-to-back. What we should get as a result is an exciting hockey game between two teams that could be among the last standing in this year’s postseason.
The question for bettors here is whether this is a spot where the Devils will continue their hot streak on the road. New Jersey is 18-2-2 in road games on the year coming into this week, but this will be one of their biggest tests of the year away from Prudential Center. With Dallas entering the week at 13-5-3 at home, this will be one of the best games of the week.
Saturday: Golden Knights vs. Islanders
Finally, we look at another back-to-back spot in the NHL for our final betting opportunity worth taking advantage of this week. The Vegas Golden Knights will play two straight nights in the state of New York. First, they will take on the New York Rangers on Friday, before going to take on the New York Islanders.
Vegas is another team that has been incredible on the road over the course of this season, going 15-4-2 outside of Vegas, which has helped them enter this week in first place in the Pacific Division. But asking Vegas to win two straight games on the road in consecutive nights may be too much to ask, even if they have a better record on the road than they do at home. Keep an eye on the goaltending situation for the Knights ahead of this game, as they could rotate at that position and make things easier or tougher on the Islanders.
