It is still very early in the NHL season, so getting too carried away at this point is never really a very good idea. That said, there are a handful of teams who look to be a cut above in the early going, although whether they can sustain their fast starts remains to be seen. The long-term goal is, of course, to make the playoffs and take a run at the Stanley Cup, but you can bet that most players and coaches will be sticking by the looking at nothing but the next game approach to the season. With that in mind, we are going to take a look at the NHL schedule for the coming week and pick out a few games that demand your attention. Let’s get right to it so you can get ready to make your bets against the NHL odds for week 5 of the 2021 season.
NHL Betting Odds – Games Analysis, Top Picks, Previews for Week 5 Matches
Florida Panthers at New York Rangers – Monday
As we head into a new week in the NHL, everyone is looking up at the Florida Panthers, who have only lost 1 game this season. That loss came in OT to take them to 10-0-1 on the season, which means they have picked up points in all 11 games. The New York Rangers are in a good spot in the Metropolitan Division and will be happy to get back home after a disastrous road trip that saw them lose 3 in a row, including back-to-back defeats in Alberta.
San Jose Sharks at Calgary Flames – Tuesday
Two of the hottest teams in the league can be found in the Pacific Division, where the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames are setting a torrid pace. The Flames will look to improve on their 7-1-3 record when they host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. The Sharks are 6-4-1 on the season, but they are also on a 2-game losing skid heading into this one. They will be looking to tighten things up in the division with a road win.
Toronto Maple Leafs at Philadelphia Flyers – Wednesday
The Wednesday night schedule is a little light, but there is a game that is definitely a must watch, with Toronto going on the road to face the Philadelphia Flyers. The Maple Leafs have come to life after a bit of a sluggish start and come into the new week on a 5-game win streak. Philly are a very respectable 6-2-2 on the season and well within reach of the top of the Metropolitan Division, so a very good game on tap here.
Edmonton Oilers at Boston Bruins – Thursday
The Edmonton Oilers come into the new week sporting the best record in the Western Conference, but they will have a tricky trip to Boston to look forward to on Thursday night. The Oilers are a perfect 3-0 on the road and will be facing a Bruins team that is a perfect 4-0 at home. Something has to give here in a game where we can probably expect to see some goals.
Philadelphia Flyers at Carolina Hurricanes – Friday
The Metropolitan Division is the tightest division of the 4 at this current time, with just 7 points separating first from last. The Carolina Hurricanes are on top with a 9-1-0 record, but the Flyers are just 4 points off the pace and will be looking to close that gap on Friday night. This will be the first of 4 meetings between these two teams this season.
