Top Parlay Picks of the Week (Oct 24th-30th)

This might be a great week to bet on hockey as the sportsbooks like MyBookie could be a bit distracted with all else that is going on in the sports world: the World Series, start of the NBA season and the usual NFL, college football, tennis, golf and soccer action. A big week indeed! Here are three games that I would parlay together in the NHL odds this week.

Florida Panthers at Pittsburgh Penguins, Tuesday

Will the Pens have superstar Sidney Crosby by Tuesday? He has yet to play this season due to a concussion. Crosby resumed skating Saturday after staying off the ice Friday. “It was a good day off for Sid,” coach Mike Sullivan said. One complicating factor could be the Penguins’ schedule. Sullivan has said Crosby likely will have to participate in a full practice before he can play, but with four games over the next eight days, there might not be many chances for that. The 29-year- old Crosby is coming off a superlative 2015-16 season that saw him start slowly with just five points in October but finish by playing some of the best hockey of his career. He was named playoff MVP in helping the Penguins to a second Stanley Cup during his tenure with the team. He then led Team Canada to an undefeated run at the World Cup of Hockey last month, where he led all tournament scorers and was named tournament MVP. Meanwhile, top defenseman Kris Letang missed his second straight game on Saturday with an upper body injury. While the injury is not expected to keep the Letang the Penguins struggled on Saturday without him as they dropped a 5-1 decision to a flu-ridden Nashville team. Crosby is a future Hall of Famer and so is Florida’s Jaromir Jagr, who scored his 750th career NHL goal in Thursday’s 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals. He becomes only the third player in league history to reach that mark (Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe are the other two). Go Pens even without Crosby.

Washington Capitals at Edmonton Oilers, Wednesday

It’s a stellar matchup between two amazing scorers in Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and Edmonton second-year player Connor Mc David. Alex Ovechkin gave the Washington Capitals a two goal-lead in the first, but it was the last time the team would score in a 4-2 loss to the New York Rangers Saturday night. Ovechkin has now scored in his last three consecutive games. As for McDavid, he’s an early MVP favorite. Considering the Art Ross Trophy winner has averaged 99 points since the last lockout, a scoring title by McDavid would immediately place him among the best 19-year- olds of all-time. Only four players have recorded 100 or more points in their age-19 campaigns – Mario Lemieux (100 points in 1984-85), Jimmy Carson (107 points in 1987-88), Sidney Crosby (120 points in 2006-07) and Gretzky himself (164 points in 1980-81). McDavid is the team captain, the youngest in league history. I like Washington here.

Nashville Predators at San Jose Sharks, Saturday

It’s a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semifinals. The Sharks won Game 7 over the Predators 5-0 at home. Joe Pavelski, Joel Ward, Logan Couture, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau also scored as San Jose shook off an overtime loss in Game 6 to reach the conference finals for the fourth time in franchise history. Martin Jones made 20 saves for San Jose’s first playoff shutout in six years. The home team won all seven games in this series. The Sharks would then upset the St. Louis Blues in the West Finals before losing to Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Fisher was one of three Predators  to miss Saturday night’s game against the Penguins due to food poisoning. Pekka Rinne and Craig Smith also sat out due to the illness. But all three will be fine by this game. The Predators were impressive without them, beating the Penguins 5-1. Kevin Fiala and Viktor Arvidsson scored two goals each as five Predators players came through with their first points of the season. Take the Sharks at home in NHL betting.
