Week 8 Rundown Top NHL Betting Matchups of the Week

Top NHL Betting Matchups of the Week

Written by on November 28, 2022

Believe it or not, we’ve hit the quarter-season mark on the 2022-23 NHL Season. We’re seeing the continuation of good and bad patterns, with many teams having clear needs to be true contenders. We’re going to look ahead to week 8 of the NHL season and find the best betting matchups and the games to watch for every night of the week.

As we do with our weekly NHL betting rundowns, we use a week starting on Monday and ending on Friday. Week 8 begins on Monday, November 28th, and ends on Sunday, December 4th.

NHL Week 8 Season 2022-2023

Monday, November 28th

Week 8 of the 2022-23 schedule has six games, with some very interesting matchups. First, we like the Vegas Golden Knights to bounce back and defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets on the moneyline. The over might be a play in this one, as the Blue Jackets regularly hit the over of 6.5, and the Golden Knights average 3.48 goals per game.

We’re definitely interested in matchups like Tampa Bay vs. Buffalo, Toronto vs. Detroit, and New Jersey vs. the New York Rangers because we have matchups between three teams who have surprised us at times with their play against preseason Stanley Cup contenders on futures lines.

The game of the night might be the Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues, in which we favor the Stars to win on the moneyline. In the last game of the night, we’re not high on the Edmonton Oilers despite their recent come-from-behind win against the Rangers. We’ll take the Florida Panthers on the road to defeat the Oilers.

Tuesday, November 29th

We’ve got nine games on Tuesday night and a few teams playing on back-to-back nights you might want to focus on. The Florida Panthers take on the Calgary Flames in Matthew Tkachuk’s return to Calgary, while Tampa Bay will travel to Boston to face the Bruins. Boston and Calgary straight up on the moneyline should be the plays here, but we have more confidence in Boston actually to secure the win.

We’re watching the Colorado Avalanche and the Winnipeg Jets, which will be a very close central division battle. We also think Seattle vs. Los Angeles deserves your attention, although we’d side with the +1.5 underdog on the spread in a close matchup.

We like Vancouver to defeat the Washington Capitals and the Nashville Predators to defeat the Anaheim Ducks. You also might find pretty favorable odds on an inconsistent Carolina Hurricanes on the moneyline against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Wednesday, November 30th, 2022

Only four games are scheduled for Wednesday, but we have the San Jose Sharks playing on back-to-back nights, Tuesday night in Montreal and Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs should win this game and might cover a -1.5 goal spread.

We’ve been fascinated by the likes of New Jersey, Buffalo, and Detroit early this season, and we’ve got a Buffalo versus Detroit matchup on Wednesday night. We’d lean toward Detroit in this one, but it is too early in the week for us to make a solid pick.

Edmonton takes on Chicago in what should be a moneyline lock for the Oilers. This might be one to parlay the Oilers on the moneyline and to cover the -1.5 on the spread. However, use extreme caution when betting on the Edmonton Oilers: they are unpredictable, are weak defensively, and Jack Campbell has been no good this season.

Thursday, December 1st

Eleven games fill Thursday’s NHL schedule, each game having a clear favorite on the moneyline, except for one: Nashville vs. New Jersey. We expect the Colorado Avalanche and their league’s best powerplay to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and their low-ranked penalty kill. We also like Seattle (vs. Washington) and Dallas (vs. Anaheim) to win at home.

Florida is playing their third game in four nights in Western Canada when they take on the Vancouver Canucks. We’d pay close attention to the Panthers’ two games in Alberta before making our wager on the Panthers vs. Vancouver Canucks. Another late-night, west coast game could make an excellent addition to Thursday’s betting ticket: we like the Los Angeles Kings to win and maybe cover the spread against the Arizona Coyotes.

However, the game of the night to watch will be either Nashville vs. New Jersey or Carolina vs. St. Louis.
