PGA Championship Betting Update: Dark Horses and Players to Keep An Eye On

The 2023 PGA Championship is here, and the top golfers from around the world make their way to Oak Hill Country Club outside of Rochester, New York, to fight for the Wanamaker Trophy and earn the title of major champion. The 105th edition of the four-day event begins with the first round on Thursday, May 18th, and concludes on Sunday, May 21st.

The second major of the season returns to the East Course at Oak Hill Country Club for the fourth time in PGA Championship history. Justin Thomas is the defending champion after a dramatic Sunday final round that led to his second Wanamaker Trophy.

The 156-man field is made up of the world’s best golfers, along with 20 spots designated for club professionals from around the United States.

Let’s dive into our favorite dark horses and players to watch out for this week PGA Championship lines that should be of good value for your next golf bets.

Dark Horses

Tony Finau (+2200)
Finau has already won twice this season and has finished T31 or better in 14-straight events. The 33-year-old is searching for his first major and this week could be it. Finau has had success at this tournament in the past, with three top-10s in eight starts.

Tyrell Hatton (+3500)
Not a name typically thrown around in major tournament conversations, but Hatton fits the billing of a dark horse. If you look at Hatton’s recent play, it is notable that the 31-year-old has strung together back-to-back top-5 finishes. A pair of T10s in 2016 and ‘18, along with a T13 last year, shows he can play in this major.

Rickie Fowler (+6000)
The golf world would love nothing more than to see Fowler lock up his first major title. Fowler’s game is trending in the right direction, with five consecutive finishes of T17 or better. He has been close here before, finishing T19 the last time the PGA Championship was played at Oak Hill in 2013.

Players to Watch

Jon Rahm (+750)
One of the top two favorites, it is hard not to look at Rahm’s game and be confident that he could win back-to-back majors. The No. 1 ranked player in the world is at the top of his game with four wins already this season. Rahm’s best finish here was a T4 in 2018.

Justin Thomas (+3000)
Not a lot of excitement around the defending champion this week. Thomas hasn’t won since his win a year ago, and the 30-year-old has only a pair of top-10 finishes this season. The two-time PGA Championship winner has played just twice since missing the cut at the Masters, but a T25 and T14 showing tells us the game is close.

Dustin Johnson (+3500)
Johnson picked up his second LIV Golf League victory last week and is an intriguing player to watch this week. DJ’s last PGA Tour victory was the 2020 Masters played in the fall, but the two-time major winner has been close to hoisting the Wanamaker recently with a solo second in 2019 and T2 in 2020.
