Juventus vs Atletico Madrid 2019 UEFA Champions League Odds & Prediction

Juventus vs Atletico Madrid Last Meeting

These teams played on Sept. 18 in the Champions League and tied 2-2. Hector Herrera headed home a late equalizer for Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. Juve star Cristiano Ronaldo tested Jan Oblak late in the first half, but otherwise chances were hard to come by and the teams went into half-time locked in a goalless draw.

Juventus led 2-0 thanks to a 65th minute goal from Blasie Matuidi and looked set to pick up all three points, but Herrera’s acrobatic header from a Kieran Trippier corner drew Atleti level just before second-half stoppage time to steal a late point.

Why bet on Juventus?

Juventus has already clinched a spot in the next round and can win the group with just a draw. Juve is still undefeated on the season and enters on a five-game winning streak. Juve hasn’t conceded more than a goal in a game since it last played Atleti on Sept. 18.

Juve comes off a 3-1 win over Atalanta in Serie A competition on Saturday. A late double from Gonzalo Higuain helped Juventus come from behind to win and go four points clear at the top of the Serie A standings.

Robin Gosens gave the home side a lead in the second half after Musa Barrow missed a penalty before the break. But Higuain struck twice in the final 16 minutes to turn the game on its head before Paulo Dybala sealed the points with a late strike. Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t play due to a knee injury. He is expected to play here.

Ronaldo will be 35 next February, but he’s still very productive. This year in fact was most productive year of his career in terms of goals for his country by netting 14 times for his national team Portugal. During 2019, Ronaldo has scored hat tricks against Switzerland and Lithuania, who he also hit four against in Vilnius in October.

Key Numbers

Juventus won three of their five home games in last season’s UEFA Champions League, beating Young Boys (3-0) and Valencia (1-0) in the group stage and Atlético in the last 16, but lost the other two matches, against Manchester United on Matchday 4 and Ajax in the quarter-final second leg (both 1-2). It is the only time Juventus have ever lost more than one home game in a European campaign.

Before losing to Real Madrid in the 2017-18 quarter-final first leg (0-3), Juve were unbeaten in 27 home matches in UEFA competition (W16 D11), dating back to a 2-0 reverse against Bayern München in April 2013. They have still lost only four of their 40 European matches at the Juventus Stadium (W24 D12), although three of those defeats have come in their last eight matches.

Juve have won four of their last six matches against Spanish clubs, home and away. This is Juve’s 20th UEFA Champions League campaign; they have reached the last 16 or better in 16 of the previous 19.

Why bet on Atletico Madrid?

Atleti needs only a draw to advance, while the team also moves to the knockout if Lokomotiv Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen play to a draw.

Atletico comes off a 1-1 draw vs. Granada on Saturday in La Liga action. It was Atleti’s seventh draw in 14 league games this season. Diego Simeone’s side went ahead in the 60th minute through Brazilian leftback Renan Lodi but lost their lead soon after when Granada’s German Sanchez outjumped defender Hector Herrera and sent a header crashing into the net. Simeone brought on record signing Joao Felix in search of a winner but his side barely managed to test Granada’s keeper Rui Silva in the closing stages.

Álvaro Morata had scored in six successive Atletico matches before drawing a blank against Atalanta and has seven goals in his last nine games for club and country.

Atletico are unbeaten in their last 10 Liga matches, although they have won only three. The 2-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on 14 September is their only league loss of the season (W6 D7).

Juventus vs Atletico Madrid is the best UCL game on Tuesday.

The side remains without striker Diego Costa due to a slipped disc in his neck. He’s likely out until February. Atletico didn’t go into the transfer market to find a temporary replacement for Costa or anyone else, with the club having already reached its salary cap limit set by La Liga.

Recent Performance

In last season’s group stage, Atleti won 2-1 at Monaco on Matchday 1 before unexpectedly going down 4-0 at Dortmund on Matchday 3 – their joint heaviest European defeat – and recording a goalless draw at Club Brugge. They bowed out in the round of 16 with that 3-2 aggregate defeat by Juventus.

Atletico have lost four of their last 13 European away games, winning four, although three of those defeats have come in their last five matches (W1 D1). Atletico have lost only four of their last 26 matches in continental competition (W16 D6). This is Atletico’s 10th UEFA Champions League group campaign; all but two of the previous nine have extended into the knockout stages.
