USL & MLS Betting - 2020 Games to Bet On This Week

2020 USL & MLS Games to Bet on this Week

Written by on September 1, 2020

While soon-to-be-disgraced former owner Dell Loy Hansen has dominated the soccer headlines in the United States as he is being forced to sell Utah Soccer Holdings, which owns MLS team Real Salt Lake, NWSL team Utah Royals and USL team Real Monarchs, there’s a lot going on in both, the MLS and USL heading further into the new week, Hansen’s irresponsible statements on current race relations in the U.S., aside. With that said and a bunch of value-packed soccer betting action going down this week in both league’s let’s find out what lies ahead for the coming week so you can place your bets against their USL odds & MLS odds.

MLS & USL Championship Top Games of the Week, Highlights, and Predictions

United Soccer League Matches

San Antonio (7-0-3) hits the new week as the only unbeaten team in the USL Championship regular season following its 3-1 win over Rio Grande Valley FC on Friday night in the South Texas. Orange County SC (4-1-3) and the Tampa Bay Rowdies (6-1-3) both suffered their first losses of the season on the road, in falling to Las Vegas and Charleston respectively in their last matches. Reno 1868 FC has suffered one home loss and one road loss, but they are tied with San Antonio for a league-high seven victories heading into Week 11. The Birmingham Legion (6-1-3), Pittsburgh Riverhounds (6-3-1), Indy Eleven (6-3-1), New Mexico United (6-2-2), Phoenix Rising FC (6-2-2) and Charleston Battery (6-2-2) are the only other teams to have recorded six wins or more at this point.

Phoenix star Junior Flemmings leads the league in goals scored with 10 while Indy Eleven’s Tyler Pasher has eight. Phoenix striker Rufat Dadashov is third with seven goals while four players are sitting on six goals. Charlotte keeper Brandon Miller and Atlanta United 2 keeper Ben Lundgaard are tied with a league-high 42 saves. Saint Luis FC keeper Kyle Morton has 3 saves, LA Galaxy II keeper Abraham Romero has 31 saves and Loudoun United FC keeper rounds out the top five with 28 saves.

Here is a look at the top goals of the past week

Major League Soccer Matches

Now, let’s get to my top two matchups on the coming MLS slate of action, with both affairs going down on Wednesday night.

Philadelphia Union (4-1-3) vs Columbus Crew (5-1-2)

Philadelphia is sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference with 12 goals scored and eight allowed. The Union come into this affair riding consecutive wins including an emphatic 4-1 win over DC United on Saturday. Columbus is sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference with 12 goals scored and a league-low two goals allowed. However, the Crew are struggling after winning just one of their last four games. Columbus managed to play Hell is Real rivals, FC Cincinnati, to a scoreless draw on Saturday following a 1-0 loss against New York in their previous match.

Prediction

While Columbus has the league’s best defense, the Crew are not playing well at the offensive end of the pitch while Philadelphia has picked up their play over the last couple of weeks. While Columbus is the big favorite in this clash of legitimate title hopefuls, I like Philly to get the draw at the very least while pushing the Crew for the outright win.

Seattle Sounders (4-1-2) vs Real Salt Lake (2-1-4)

Seattle is in second place in the Western Conference with 13 goals scored and just five allowed defensively. The defending champion Sounders have won two straight and come into this matchup fresh off a convincing 3-1 win over LA FC on Sunday. Real Salt Lake is sitting in fifth place out west with 11 goals scored and eight conceded. Despite dealing with a ton of unwanted national attention this past week, Real Salt Lake managed to scratch out a hard-fought 4-4 draw against Portland on Saturday

Prediction

Real Salt Lake may have managed to pull out a huge draw the last time out, but Seattle is playing well right now and looking more like the defending champs they are than they have all season. Real Salt Lake will still get a ton of questions from the media about their polarizing owner and that could cause them to lose their focus as they try to move past the distraction. Seattle gets it done in this one by two goals!

I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
