His form for Bayern was magnificent, with 39 goals in all competitions this season, but his leadership qualities will come under the spotlight in Russia 2018. Lewandowski had a relatively quiet tournament at Euro 2016, scoring just once. They have a solid backbone of experienced leaders, including center-back Kamil Glik, defender Lukasz Piszczek, and midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, who are ably complemented by rising young stars like Piotr Zielinski and Karol Linetty. Another player to watch is Arkadiusz Milik. The Napoli forward was ruled out for the first half of the season after another serious knee injury but his form was decent after his return as he scored six goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side. Poland is coached by Adam Nawalka. He is a former Polish international who played at the 1978 World Cup where Poland finished fifth. Yes, his job has been helped due to having Lewandowski in his prime, but Nawalka’s tactics have allowed Poland to move up the ladder in European qualifying rather quickly and they could have reached the final at Euro 2016 if they had beaten Portugal in the quarters. Nawalka has been in charge since 2013 and after five years at the helm, he will see this summer as the pinnacle of his work with Poland so far.

Competing in just their second World Cup in history, Senegal has the potential to repeat their heroics from the 2002 World Cup when they reached the quarterfinals. Senegal’s battle to at least reach the last four is however just a microcosm of a broader case for Africans sides to play in a World Cup final. Cameroon (1990) and Ghana (2010) are the only other Africans to manage a place in the quarter-finals. Senegal eased through qualifying in Africa after plenty of years of underperforming and this current crop of players have a wealth of experienced across Europe’s top leagues. Their star is Sadio Mane. The problem is the attacking support behind Mane, and when teams focus on the Liverpool star, they struggle to produce much else. With 33 goals in 73 games for Liverpool over the past two seasons, he has delivered the goods and had a fine season, which went a little unnoticed given Mohamed Salah’s heroics. With plenty of expectation on his shoulders in his homeland, Mane has scored just 14 goals in 49 games for The Lions of Teranga. Sadio Mane is not enough for Senegal to come in as the 2018 World Cup Betting favorite against Poland. Defensively, Senegal is led by Kalidou Koulibaly, who in four seasons at Napoli has become one of European club football’s most accomplished defenders. Little known before he was signed by Napoli in 2014, Koulibaly has been a rock at the heart of the Napoli defense and has played a key role in helping to transform them into one of Serie A’s top sides. Coach Aliou Cisse has options all across the lineup, with a wealth of talented forward options, a clutch of rugged and powerful midfielders and the kind of central defensive options. Central defender Kara Mbodji’s recovery from a serious knee injury has come just in time, much to the relief of Cisse. “It’s been a long absence – five whole months,” the Anderlecht defender said. “It’s not been easy for me but I’m happy to be back on the field of play. They are not one of the favorites to win Group H, but they can put up a fight for sure.
