Top 2021 MLS Matches to Bet On: Colorado Rapids Looking to Get 1st Place

The stretch run of the Major League Soccer season is upon us, and with the international break a week away, the next two sets of games will be critical league-wide. The fun gets started with a full slate of games on Wednesday, so let’s take a look at the key matchups on the schedule along with their MLS odds.

Top MLS Games to Watch and Wager On the Week (Sep 29th)

Atlanta United FC -208 vs Inter Miami CF +500

Both of these teams are on the outside of the playoff picture, so three points is a must for both sides. At home, Atlanta is a heavy favorite at -181, while Inter’s Moneyline for a victory is +440.

A stretch of five wins and a draw over six matches and four straight clean sheets has quickly turned into a nightmare for Miami. The Herons have suffered back-to-back losses to the Red Bulls and Crew, getting outscored 9-1 in those matches.

That could be a problem against an Atlanta squad that lost last weekend but had three straight wins prior to that, outscoring teams 10-2 in those three wins. Clearly, the oddsmakers are banking on Atlanta quickly getting back on track against a spiraling Inter Miami squad.

New York Red Bulls +121 vs Philadelphia Union +235

This match offers some of the tightest odds of any MLS match on Wednesday. The Red Bulls are home favorites at +116, while the Union has a Moneyline of +225. There are seven spots between these teams in the standings but just eight points between them.

Of course, it’s the Red Bulls who are on the outside of the playoff picture and need to pick up all three points. The Red Bulls are riding high after the Derby win over NYCFC over the weekend, with their strong defense allowing just one goal in three matches.

That presents a challenge for Philadelphia, which is one of the strongest defensive sides in MLS but can struggle to score goals if Kacper Przybylko isn’t the one putting the ball in the back of the net.

Colorado Rapids -234 vs Austin FC +560

The Rapids still have their sights set on first place in the Western Conference, trailing Seattle by just three points. Colorado is also heavily favored on Wednesday with a -208 Moneyline against last-place Austin FC.

However, even at +460, Austin has some momentum after a 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy over the weekend. While defending is still a concern, Josh Wolff’s team has scored six goals in three matches and isn’t going down without a fight late in the season.

Seattle Sounders +175 vs San Jose Earthquakes +170

There could be a twist in the tail in this match as San Jose is a slight favorite at +141 against the Sounders, who are currently on top of the Western Conference. Seattle’s Moneyline is set at +180, while a draw is listed at +230.

San Jose is three points out of a playoff spot but just seven points out of fourth place, so three points against the Sounders would be massive. With back-to-back wins, confidence is high for San Jose, especially since top talisman Javier Lopez has six goals and an assist in his last three matches.

Needless to say, Seattle’s biggest task is trying to shut him down. Of course, the Sounders have the best defensive record in the league, although leading scorer Raul Ruidiaz hast just one goal in four matches since the last international break.
