USL Championship 2020 Playoffs | Conference Semifinals Analysis

Tampa Bay Rowdies Vs Charleston Battery

  • When: Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 6:30 PM ET
  • Where: Al Lang Stadium

Group H winner Tampa Bay takes on Group H runner-up Charleston. The Rowdies man-handled Birmingham in the quarterfinals 4-2 as Jordan Doherty, Sebastian Guenzatti, Lucky Mkosana and Leo Fernandes all scored. Charleston got past Charlotte 2-1 in their quarterfinal pairing as Nicque Daley and Arthur Bosua found the back of the net. While Charleston has won three straight in this rivalry since August 29, I’m going with the Rowdies to get the revenge they’re looking for in their biggest and most important game of the year.

Pick: Tampa Bay 2 Charleston 1

Louisville City FC Vs St. Louis FC

  • When: Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 6:30 PM ET
  • Where: Lynn Family Stadium

Louisville City FC and Saint Louis FC will square off in their fifth and final Kings’ Cup rivalry clash on Saturday. Louisville City beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC -0 last Saturday night as Cameron Lancaster scored his third postseason goal all-time and Corben Bone added another. St. Louis got past Hartford 1-0 in their quarterfinal clash as Joaquin Rivas scored the game’s only goal. While St. Louis got the win in their first meeting this season and a draw in the second meeting, Louisville City has won the last two including an emphatic 3-0 win on Sept. 12. Louisville City wins and advances.

Pick: Louisville City 3 St. Louis FC 1

Reno 1868 Vs Phoenix Rising

  • When: Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Greater Nevada Field

Reno 1868 smacked the LA Galaxy II around en route to a convincing 4-1 win in their quarterfinal matchup last weekend. Corey Hertzog scored twice and record an assist to lead 1868 to the win. Reno has now scored 47 goals in 17 games this season. Phoenix struggled in its narrow 1-0 quarterfinal win over Sacramento last Saturday as Solomon Asante scored the game’s only goal. Still, the Rising have scored a league-high 47 goals.

Reno 1868 recorded a narrow, 1-0 win the last time these two rivals met and I like them to back that up with another hard-fought victory this time around. Veteran, Foster Langsdorf also found the net for 1868 FC against Los Dos in the quarterfinals and now has 10 goals in his last 11 appearances for the side. I like Langsdorf to be a difference-maker in this one.

Pick: Reno 2 Phoenix 1

El Paso Locomotive Vs New Mexico United

  • When: Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 8:30 PM ET
  • Where: Southwest University Park

El Paso got past FC Tulsa 4-2 in game that was decided on a penalty shootout as goalkeeper Logan Ketterer made a key save in the third round and all four Locomotive FC shooters found the net. New Mexico advanced to this match by getting past San Antonio in 1-0 thriller as Chris Wehan scored the game’s only goal. When these two last met on Sept. 26, they played to a scoreless draw, but this time around, I’m going with Group C winning El Paso to get the narrow win because of their slightly better defense.

Pick: El Paso 1-0
