2017 Wimbledon Women’s Quaterfinals Betting Odds & Predictions

Written by on July 11, 2017

We are down to the final eight at the All England Club for the third major championship of the tennis season: grass-court Wimbledon. Somewhat surprisingly – because Serena Williams is sitting out the tournament due to her pregnancy – they are still two American women left, including Serena’s sister Venus. Here are the women’s quarterfinal matchups with the latest tennis odds for each player.

2017 Wimbledon Women’s Quaterfinals Betting Odds & Predictions

No. 10 Venus Williams vs. No. 13 Jelena Ostapenko

When: July 11th, 7:10am CT Where: Center Court Tennis Odds: Williams -2-120. O 22½ +110 / Ostapenko +2EV, U 22½ -130 Venus is a -135 favorite on MyBookie Tennis odds. With her defeat of 19-year- old Ana Konjuh (6-3 6-2), the 37-year- old will be the oldest woman to play in Wimbledon’s quarterfinals since 1994. Martina Navratilova was also 37 when she reached the Wimbledon final, before she was defeated in three sets by Conchita Martinez. Williams’s next challenge will be French Open champion Ostapenko, who has been on a tear in 2017. The Ostapenko matchup is the third consecutive match in which Venus will play a player born in 1997 — the first year that she played in Wimbledon.

Comparing the Players

Venus is a five-time champion at Wimbledon, last in 2008. Venus began the year by reaching the Australian Open title decider. It was her first Grand Slam final appearance since 2009 when she lost to Serena on Centre Court. The 20-year- old Ostapenko, who won her first WTA Tour title at the French Open, beat No. 4 Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6 (6) to advance. Ostapenko won the Wimbledon girls’ title in 2014. She won an 11th straight Grand Slam match on Manic Monday, converting her eighth match point against Svitolina.

No. 6 Johanna Konta vs. No. 2 Simona Halep

When: July 11th, 8:05am CT Where: Center Court Tennis Odds: Konta -1½+110, O 22 -105 / Halep +1½-130, U 22 -115 Konta is a -115 favorite. It’s been 33 years since Wimbledon had home representation in the last eight of the women’s singles but the No. 6 seed Konta ended the drought in calm, collected fashion with a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 win over No.21 seed Caroline Garcia in two hours and 11 minutes. Back in 1984, No. 10 seed Jo Durie made her fourth and final Slam quarterfinal with a 3-6, 6-3, 9-7 fourth-round victory over a 15-year-old Steffi Graf, who was making her Wimbledon debut. Konta plays French Open finalist Halep for a spot in the semifinal after the Romanian ended the comeback of Victoria Azarenka in straight sets.

Who’s the Threat in this Matchup?

Konta has won both of their two previous encounters. If Halep wins, she will rise to No. 1 in the world. Should she fall in the quarterfinals, Karolina Pliskova will end the fortnight as the new No. 1. Halep trails Konta 0-2 in their head-to-head record. Simona Help is the underdog in the Wimbledon Quaterfinals.

No. 14 Garbine Muguruza vs. No. 7 Svetlana Kuznetsova

When: July 11th, 7:10am CT Where: Court 1 Tennis Odds: Muguruza -2-110, O 22½ +105 / Kuznetsova +2-110, U 22½ -125 Muguruza is -160 with No. 7 Kuznetsova at +135. A battle of two former finalists lived up to its billing on Wimbledon’s No. 2 Court on Monday, as Muguruza ended top seed Angelique Kerber’s tournament, and reign at World No. 1, with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in the round of 16. The aggressive Muguruza dictated proceedings in the two-hour, 18-minute encounter, as she struck a whopping 55 winners to Kerber’s 27 – while also striking 50 unforced errors. In addition, Muguruza was successful on over 60 percent of the points when she forayed to the net, winning 35 of 54 total. With her fifth straight loss to Muguruza, Kerber will see her reign at No. 1 end for now with a total of 34 weeks to her name – which ranks 12th all-time.

What About Kuznetsova?

Kuznetsova hadn’t reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in a decade – but she made it back to the last eight for the fourth time in her career with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over No. 9 seed Agnieszka Radwanska.

Magdalena Rybarikova vs. No. 24 CoCo Vandeweghe

When: July 11th, 7:15am CT Where: Court 1 Tennis Odds: Rybarikova +2½+105, O 22½ +110 / Vandeweghe -2½-125, U 22½ -130 Vandeweghe is a -180 favorite. Slovakia’s Rybarikova worked hard to reach her first Wimbledon quarterfinal, beating Petra Martic 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Rybarikova continues a fine run of form on the Wimbledon lawns as she works to rise up the rankings following an absence through injury; vanquished opponents this year so far include third seed Karolina Pliskova. Vandeweghe reached her second Grand Slam quarterfinal of 2017 with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. Vandeweghe kicked off the season with a run to the Australian Open semifinals, stunning defending champion Angelique Kerber and French Open winner Garbiñe Muguruza in back-to-back upsets along the way. Vandeweghe made her first Wimbledon quarterfinal back in 2015, narrowly losing to Maria Sharapova in three sets. Rybarikova thwarted Vandeweghe in their most recent meeting at the French Open.

Final 2017 Wimbledon Women’s Quaterfinals Predictions

Since Serena Williams is not in it, I would say that there can be a couple of surprises for this tournament. So, this is what I think will happen. Ostapenko over Venus to face Halep in one semifinal. Muguruza and Rybarikova in the other semifinal. The women’s final is Saturday at the All England Club.
