2019 French Open Round 1 Betting Preview & Picks – May 26th

Sunday, May 26

1 Novak Djokovic vs Hubert Hurkacz

Hurbert Hurkacz lost in the first round of the Open Parc-Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon in his last tournament played. Although that was a disappointing performance, the 22-year-old made it all the way to the third round at the Mutua Madrid Open in the tournament right before the Open Parc. Hurkacs pushed Alexander Zverev to three sets before bowing out of the Mutua Madrid Open.

Djokovic lost to Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Internazionali BNL dItalia, his last tournament played. Djokovic should make quick work of Hurkacz on Sunday. However, Novak can struggle in opening matches of tournaments. If you want better odds, play the handicap wagers on Djokovic and give up a few games or sets.

2019 French Open Betting Pick: Novak Djokovic

John Millman vs 5 Alexander Zverev

John Millman lost in Round 2 of the Open Parc-Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon 6-7 (3-7), 5-7 to Felix Auger-Aliassime in his last tournament played. He’s going to have a tough time beating Alexander Zverev on Sunday.

Zverev tuned up for the French Open in the Banque Eric Sturdza Geneva Open. He actually has a semifinal match on May 24 against Federico Delbonis. After Zverev wins that, he will most likely face a player on Saturday in the finals. Sounds like a lot of tennis, but Zverev is using the tournament to practice for the French Open. He’ll be sharp on Sunday.

2019 French Open Betting Pick: Alexander Zverev

Naomi Osaka vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova

Osaka hasn’t won a tournament since taking the Australian Open back in January. Supposedly, her hand injury should be healed by the time she battles Schmiedlova on May 26. Whether it is or isn’t, it might not matter.

Schmiedlova isn’t on Osaka’s level. She struggles in second-tier tournaments while Osaka has won the last two Grand Slam Tournaments. Naomi, especially if the hand is truly healed, should dominate Schmiedlova on Sunday.

2019 French Open Betting Pick: Naomi Osaka

Venus Williams vs 9 Elina Svitolina

This might be the most intriguing matchup in Round 1. Venus Williams made it all the way to Round 4 at he Miami Open in March. Simona Halep knocked her out of that tournament. Venus made it to Round 3 at the Internazionali BNL dItalia. Johana Konta beat her 6-2, 6-4.

Svitolina is ranked higher, but she could be vulnerable here. She lost to Pauline Parmentier in Round 1 at the Mutua Madrid Open. Then, she lost in Round 2 to Victoria Azarenka at the Internazionali BNL dItalia. Venus is worth a look to knock out Svitolina early.

2019 French Open Betting Pick: Venus Williams
