ATP Betting Recap: 2022 Season Review, Predictions for Next Season

The 2022 tennis season came to an end on Sunday with the conclusion of the Davis Cup, which was won by Canada for the first time ever. A week before that, Novak Djokovic won the ATP Finals for the second time in his career with a straight sets finals victory over Casper Ruud. Carolina Garcia won the WTA Finals two weeks earlier.

This past season could be marked by a possible shifting of the guard in both men’s and women’s tennis. Spanish teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz rose to world No. 1 after winning his first Grand Slam at the US Open, while Iga Swiatek held down the No. 1 spot on the WTA Tour for most of the season and cemented her status as the top woman in the world with a victory at the US Open. Swiatek also won the French Open.

Other Grand Slam winners from 2022 include Rafael Nadal (Australian and French Open), Djokovic (Wimbledon), Ashleigh Barty (Australian Open), and Elena Rybakina (Wimbledon). Barty retired not long after winning the Australian Open at just 25 years old. Let’s recap what when down this past season and what should we expect for the 2023 season so you can plan your bets against the ATP Lines.

2022 Tennis Season Betting Recap and What to Expect Next Season

Djokovic to Reclaim Most Grand Slams Distinction

Nadal is the all-time leader in Grand Slam victories with 22, but that’s perhaps only due to the fact that Djokovic was unable to play in the Australian Open or US Open due to his vaccination status.

Nadal won the first two Grand Slams of the year but struggled with injuries and inconsistency later in the season. Djokovic, however, ended the year playing some of the best tennis of his career.

Djokovic was recently ruled eligible to play in Australia in January, and he will be a massive favorite to win the tournament. He could tie Nadal with 22 career Grand Slams in Australia.

Nadal, of course, would be a favorite at the French Open, and Djokovic would be at Wimbledon. Unless younger stars like Alcaraz, Alex Zverev, and Daniil Medvedev can win a Grand Slam, we might have a case where both Nadal and Djokovic are deadlocked at 23 Grand Slams heading into the US Open.

First Grand Slam for FAA

While it’s easy to imagine Djokovic and Nadal continuing their fine form in 2022, expect some first-time Grand Slam winners to emerge. Felix Auger-Aliassime is a prime candidate to do so.

The 22-year-old Canadian predicted to be a future star in the sport for the better part of five years, finally won his first event in 2022 and ended the year winning three of his last four tournaments before the ATP Finals.

FAA also helped lead Canada to its first-ever Davis Cup and had a decent showing at the ATP Finals, where he defeated Nadal but lost competitive matches to Taylor Fritz and Ruud. His best Grand Slam result in 2022 was the Australian Open quarterfinals. He reached the semifinals of the 2021 US Open.

Swiatek to Dominate the WTA

The women’s game hasn’t had a major star dominate since Serena Williams was at her peak. There have been women who have looked as though they were poised to become the next big thing, but none have lived up to that moniker.

Naomi Osaka struggled this year. The 25-year-old is a four-time Grand Slam winner but already seems to be on a career decline. Other young Grand Slam winners like Bianca Andreescu and Emma Raducanu haven’t been able to build upon their success.

Swiatek, however, looks as though she could carry women’s tennis to new heights if she can continue her dominant play from 2022. The Polish star won more than 30 matches in a row at one point and became the first woman to win multiple Grand Slams in a calendar year since Angelique Kerber in 2016.

I have had a great experience with this site. Deposit and payout methods are fairly easy. Betting is pretty self explanatory as well. Anytime I’ve had any issues (and I’ve had a few due ti my own ignorance at times) customer service has been wonderful and extremely helpful.
